As Speier points out, 6 of Buch's 8 K's came on his fastball on the outside corner. Additionally, his change looked filthy at times this year, and his curve showed potential. I love the movement on his fastball, and overall, this could be the year he puts it all together IMO. Wasn't the year he put it all together supposed to have been 2010.

So much for the worry that this team was too right-handed.
Buchholz has not thrown any pitch above 94 MPH, and only about seven of those, everyone of them either for a strike, or an out. That is pretty much true of his 93 MPH FBs. He also has thrown some 91 and 92 MPH fastballs. His command today is phenomenal, mixing pitches from 79 to 94 MPH, and, even though he has four walks (two intelligently to Davis), his control has been sensational.
I am only going by Gameday stats, but I bet this is one of his best-ever performances.

From watching Gameday, they finally catch Chen with 3-run HR! It's almost strange that there's no video shown in whole game due to nothing excite to show. Thanks, Daniel Nava for woke up the team from being dead.

Chen isn't a soft tossing lefty. Hopefully, Clay gets thru this inning and the Sox get him a run. I think people are confusing Wei-Yin with Bruce Chen. If I'm not mistaken, Wei-Yin easily sits in the 90s. The 3 fastballs in the Nava homer were: 91,92,90. I believe that's 55-60 range for a lefty.

Lester and Buchh look like men on a mission but not only that they now have a staff to guide them through a season. Hopefully these guys keep up the great work.
BTW I was the first to call Chen a soft tosser and I must admit I don't/didn't know much about him since I really didn't pay much attention to last season after a certain point, other than checking by how many we lost and where did our pick stand. But I guess his stuff doesn't have too much power thats why I immediately thought soft tossing lefty.

Best Red Sox team ever? Or best Red Sox team ever? Well, it's at least the most likeable and fun-to-watch Sox team in a decade ...

Jones looked like he was setting up Hanrahan during that atbat. Terrible swing at a fastball, then turning on the fastball.

Decade? You're including the '04 and '07 World Series Champions in there. While this is a MUCH more likeable team than they've had in several years, tough put them ahead of those teams - especially '04 bringing home the the first World Series since 1918

yeah hanrahan needed to go with an off speed or breaking ball on that pitch because jones was expecting the fastball and crushed it.

What an erratic inning. Hanrahan was throwing absolute gas, and gave up two extra base hits.

even if you are throwing 98 mph, in alot of cases, the hitters will eventually catch up to it. you need to show some off-speed and breaking pitches to become more deceptive and successful.
