apparently aceves is pitching Thursday. Kill me now, that is so stupid. We would probably be better off with any of the AAA starters. Plus they are pushing back Doubront so Tampa faces 2 lefties in a row. If they were going to do that why not have Webster go Thursday on an extra day of rest? 1) Never understood the issue with a team facing "two lefties in a row." Not necessarily that you're the first to say this, but I mean, what's actually the problem with that. 2) There's no guarantee Webster or Wright, the two realistic Triple-A options, would do any better than Aceves right now. Plus, this is why he's on the roster - if you're not going to use him as the spot starter here, there's almost no point in having him around. But the biggest thing is probably that you would want to give a guy more than a day's notice that he'll be making his MLB debut, if you can.

It sounds like you know exactly what to make of them. They were a .500 team that happened to win 16 out of 18 coin flips. Not much mystery too it. It seems to me just making that franchise into a .500 team was a pretty good accomplishment. Not sure about the overall depth and position prospects, it looks like it might be thin (at least on top 100 prospects), but with Bundy and Gausman coming up they could be very dangerous if they can keep some of their key players longer term and/or bring in some decent FA's.

It's amazing how much 4 innings from Lackey changed some people's perception of what he could bring this year. It's a good move to DL him. He seems like someone who will pitch thru pain when it's smarter not to. Rest him up. He could be big fr te rotation if healthy.

How much patience do you guys think BC will have with Aceves? I know it's only the start of the season, but his ineffectiveness goes back to last year. Will he be given leeway due to the nature of spot starting? Could Wilson or one of the AAA arms threaten him for one of the jobs at the back end of the BP?

If Aceves isn't good during the period where Lackey is hurt, I don't see how they can keep him. He wasn't good the back part of last year, he hasn't been good in relief (SSS, i know), and now he's got his chance in the rotation. It's not like he's got that clubhouse benefit either, and he's a certified whackjob

That error was inexperience induced. Victorino was camped under that.

Man, utterly miserable night for baseball at Fenway tonight. I do not envy the non-sellout crowd.

Shouldn't Nate McLouth be playing the Mexican league or something right now? He's a terrible ballplayer.

Well they return the favor to Ellsbury and turn a base hit into a 3 bagger
Just another 0-2 walk for JBJ. A hit would be nice every once in a while, but I'll take the walks

He's not looking great when he swings the bat. I think this experience will help him and he'll figure it out, perhaps even sooner then later, but he hasn't put many good swings on the ball.

Man, that's a good bullpen. Uehara and Tazawa just rip through lineups.

Nice to see O'Day continuing the fine tradition of submariner relievers who are ridiculously nasty yet get no credit for it because they look weird.

I think Bailey's a better pitcher than Hanrahan.

What is it with Ellsbury and jumping at balls that are 35 yards from his glove? Stop it.

I think Bailey's a better pitcher than Hanrahan. I think Hanrahan might be like the fourth best reliever in the Sox bullpen.

I think Bailey's a better pitcher than Hanrahan. Which is why it is actually better for the team that he isn't closing. And he can be used more freely.
