It seems like the industry is still pretty hot for him. Let’s review.
He’s a stiff defensively and looks unathletic on the basepaths. This means he will have to play first or DH. Which means he has to mash at the Major League level. Which is a problem because..
He has never really mashed in the minors.
I understand he is probably a binkie for some on a website called soxprospects. But what kind of cost controlled asset could you get for the theoretical slugger?

He’d be the first guy I’d trade of the top 4. With such a low value placed on corner bat-first types in the open market, he’s gotta be ridiculously good to justify his National rankings.
With that said, I’m missing watching an (almost) completely home-grown team, so let’s not be blowing up the farm this year. The big league club isn’t good enough to justify trading off anyone in the system - it’s looking like we are a year out. With this stable of arms, and a whole host of position guys who could be knocking at the door if things break right (Casas included), hopefully next year will look a little more promising.

Stiff defensively? Funny, I read close to GG caliber. Sounds like someone is biased.

The Sox first base position is too much a questionable position right now to trade him, but I don't see the idea as farfetched.
There's not many Matthew Liberatore for Randy Arozarena trades also.

Sounds like someone is biased. Guilty. I don’t like first base only prospects. Especially ones who haven’t hit a whole lot.

I dont understand what metric you are using when you say he hasn't "hit a whole lot"? He's young for AAA and OPS .800+ while having one of the better barrel rates at the level. I'm not going to anoint him a perennial all star but I'd be shocked if he wasn't at least an above average player at first. Based off what they've been throwing out there at first base since the days of Youk ill take that 10 times outta 10.

Prospects based off projection is scary, especially with a prospect who's value is mostly with the bat. There's Anthony Rizzo when it comes to a success story. Then there's Lars Anderson. That was a example of who you should have sold high on. At least they got Stephen Wright, who gave them like 2 years of production I guess.

I think talk of trading Casas is going to look silly in a couple of years or so if not sooner.
The Red Sox have a pretty serious 1b problem right now. This guy has power and strike zone judgment and a decent hit tool and is young. He's the best 1b prospect they've had since Mo Vaughn, and that includes Lars Anderson and even Anthony Rizzo, although if he has a career as good as Rizzo's I'd be happy.
The Sox haven't had real stability at 1b since Kevin Youkilis. I have no desire to see Casas be traded. I think he played damn well given how he was never really in one spot in the minors before going off to the Olympics, etc. This kid will hit, well enough to hit .260 - .280 if not better. He'll draw at least 60 plus walks per year. I think he'll easily be the best defensive 1b they've had in awhile.
I wish all the Red Sox positional areas had prospects the quality of Tristan Casas, so getting rid of him...hell no.

Unless we’re talking a Chris Sale level trade where you get an established, controlled, high-level starter, you don’t trade Casas. He’s that good.

It does seem people don't realize how young he is. 2019-2022 he's had 1,027 PA. 36 of them have came against pitchers younger than him and 22 of those were last season. He has 1 this season and is one of the youngest hitters in his league. His stats aren't necessarily eye popping or anything, but for his age he's doing very well.

Casas hasn't hit .350 or launched 40 bombs so he's obviously got to be overrated, right? Doesn't seem like he's taken Casas' ~20% K-rate, ~15%BB-rate, and ~.850 OPS. I'm not saying I'm averse to trading Casas, but to only consider traditional (outdated) stats when judging a guy is super short sighted.

No, in all seriousness, I just don’t love the fact that he’s not crushing it. Because he plays first base. And he’s athletically limited. Look if Casas was a consensus like 60-80 prospect in baseball, I would be all for holding onto him because I think he’s going to be a good major leaguer. But this site has him ranked above Mayer. And it seems like the National Media is almost as high on him. So I just think you leverage the value and trade him for something cost-controlled (if possible). Maybe it’s not possible and you can’t trade him for something meaningful. I just don’t think the value is lining up with the production or even the projection.

And that means his value might not be a whole lot higher than what it is right now. And that’s if he pans out, of course.
