They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

At least the pitching matchups this series looks a lot smoother. Lol no Seabolds, TBD, and Teddy Brushci starting for the Sox against the Yankees.

Going into this final road trip, I'd have felt pretty good about winning 3 of 7. I still would, as I'm completely willing to be irrational/bi-polar and forget being swept by the Rays.

Is Whitlock back tonight, too?

We arent playing well, but we've had some tough losses mixed in. Losses that can be corrected with getting healthy/making a couple trades/just playing less sloppy.
I'm not out on this team. Go Sox.

Is Whitlock back tonight, too? That's the plan. We've got to find a hip-hop star who likes the Sox, so s/he can do a Whitlock name-drop in a song. If only to get the line: "...And then they called in Whitlock He put them all in a Ziploc..."

Looking back on the early part of the season, yes I am being a Monday morning QB, The decision to move Whitlock from the pen to starting really hurt this team. They forget how valuable he was in the pen. Between him and Houck was two weapons Cora had at his disposal. Now the offense getting into ruts is a different story.

What managerial magic does Cora have planned for the weekend?

If you told me in March that the Sox would be 15.5 games behind the Yankees and only 1.5 up the Orioles just before the break, I don’t think I’d immediately think “but still on pace for the playoffs!” The new WC rules certainly change how one looks at the season.

New playoffs or old playoffs we still In the dance. But but more leeway now. Be real huge if a guy could end 2-1 before the break.

The Red Sox are a tick off pace of what I'd want to see, 85-win pace vs. low-90s, especially considering they were on a 90-win pace a few days ago, but I think that says a lot more about how well the Yankees and Orioles are playing as opposed to an indictment on the Sox or the new wild card rules.

I didn’t mean it as an indictment of anything… just that decades of thinking about outcomes need to be recalibrated. And certainly the Os and Yanks deserve credit. Truthfully, I’m glad Baltimore is playing well. Baseball is more fun when rivals are no joke.

I agree the WC should force us to recalibrate, which is the main reason I'm not really caring about this past week of baseball. Just play well in August and September, normalize their record against the AL East, and they'll get in.
But the Sox are just 5 days past being a 90-win team, they're definitely underperforming but based on how the season has gone it's felt like they've been underperforming more than that.

Well, there is the long game, but as someone who tries to watch most of the games, I have a hard time being consoled by the playoffs in a 2-6 stretch against the Yankees and Rays. I mean, that is a week of pain mid-July we can’t get back.

I don't know how Montgomery survives in this league. His stuff is pretty meh. Just throw the ball 3-6 inches off the outside corner all night and hope for a big plate and impatient hitters. Such an annoying player to watch.
