If this was already asked I didn’t catch it but all the kids drafted no one cracks the top 60? several of them have too, my guess is between the signing deadline and adding prospects during the trade deadline the soxprospects ranking gods are taking a little extra time to decide how and where they fit. I can see 2 or 3 of our first 3 picks going into the top 20.

Mike announced that the rankings would come out late this month. Should see them sometime between today and Monday (unless something has changed)

Not saying anyone is wrong to feel this way or that it doesn't make sense, but it is kinda funny that there's the most interest in where they fall there might ever be (and I'm curious too!) when the soxprospects guys have the least amount of info they'll ever have on them.

So he ended up getting 'only' 47,5K. Kinda surprising! Seems like a case where a guy is just 100% committed to turning pro and giving it a shot. The sox are willing to give him that chance and probably like a couple of his tools (speed, defensive profile), but let's be clear that Zayas isn't a top HS guy. If his Miami Dade HS profile is to be believed he was a career .217 hitter in HS with a career .615 OPS. Maybe he looked a little more intriguing on national showcases, but I'm pretty sure his PG ranking is based on a couple of tools and not performance. He's a real long shot in my mind to get meaningful playing time and to ever advance out of short season ball. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer. I'm reminded of when the Red Sox were negotiating with Josh Reddick to turn pro in 2006. He got $140k, a pretty good bonus for where he was drafted at that time. He admitted years later that he was academically ineligible and probably would've signed for whatever they wanted to give him because going back to school wasn't a realistic option for him. Not saying Zayas was a poor student, but just that sometimes school (or continued school) just isn't actually in a guy's plans.

Well, highest 90th percentile exit velo. It's impressive but he also had a robust 15-PA sample size that you have to consider. That said, it was an impressive sample in terms of exit velo. Anthony and Romero also had pretty good exit velo numbers, particularly for their age.

Seems unlikely that he will sign as a draft-and-follow now.

Seems unlikely that he will sign as a draft-and-follow now. Does it though? I guess it depends if he's planning to transfer in the spring or just after this season. $254,480 is only early 7th-ish round money but if he's not transferring for this year, that's nothing to sneeze at.

Also, wouldn't it benefit Austin if the Sox ended up not signing him? Seems to make good sense for him regardless if he signs. I don't think this shuts the door yet.

Nice job. Why not. Good for the kid took his time and what the hell signed. That’s like an extra prospect coming into the fold. Very nice news. I thought no way at all. I already like the kid he didn’t rush and figured his life out right now.

Possible tuition money too. May want to get a degree at one point? I’m just happy for the scout, the hard work to get this kid in the fold. A little bonus before our kickass draft coming up.

Really like this signing and think there is plenty of runway left with him after being a basketball player for a long time. There are often times a considerable jump in their respective development/stuff when they focus on pitching full time.
