Red Sox Payroll on Twitter has them 7.8 million over twitter.com/redsoxpayrollIf they lose a bunch of games quick I suppose they could start putting guys on waivers to get under

They'd have to put a half dozen players on waivers ... Can't be X, Evo, JD if they plan on a QO JD won't get a QO. Eovaldi could get released if it'll get them under. A 4th round pick or nothing at the current rate.

If a player clears waivers before being picked up by another team (aka JBJ), does that result in an savings for the Red Sox?

If a player clears waivers before being picked up by another team (aka JBJ), does that result in an savings for the Red Sox? As far as I know yes, just a lot less. If a player we waive is picked up by another team who then pays them the league minimum, we'd save the pro-rated league minimum. I'm basing that off of this tweet.

I'd tend to trust RSP more though. Spotrac still shows Pham's LT salary as $0, for example, and it doesn't seem to be pro-rating luxury tax salaries for some players appropriately, like James Norwood.
