Tristan Casas and Chris Murphy to the Marlins for Sandy Alcantara This is one of those cases where writing a complete sentence would be helpful.

A trade for Alcantara starts with Mayer, Bleis, and Bello. I'm not saying that gets it done, but that gets Maimi to the table. Except it doesn't get them to the table because I don't think they're looking to trade him.
This is all purely hypothetical because I don't think they are looking to trade him. Perhaps Lopez is more realistic, and cheaper, and would still be a huge upgrade to this rotation.

Not trying to pile on here, just providing a helpful resource that I tout on this forum and Twitter a lot. www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/Your proposed trade gives the Marlins 44.9 in value and the Red Sox 140.1. Then keep in mind the 140.1 number the Sox need to hit is assuming the Marlins are ready to sell for fair market value, which they are not. Probably need to overpay by another 20 to get them to the table.

Trade Values says Mayer, Casas, Houck, Rafaela, Duran, W. Gonzalez, and a lottery pick for Alcantara is about even. The Marlins may not think so, but an offer like this might get them talking.
As much as I covet Alcantara, the price is just too high. Other top of the rotation pitchers (Corbin Burnes?) may be available at a more reasonable price. Signing Correa would allow the team to dangle Mayer as a headliner. That's the most likely way a trade like this gets moving, imo.

This is why I think the Sox maybe should look at teams willing to unload a bad contract. The Sox don't realy have any long term ones right now. It might be a better stratagy ( and use cheaper farm system player to fil gap) than signing big FA. Add Yelich onto Burnes and maybe Adamas? What does that cost the SOX?

I don’t think this is a bad trade at all if (1) X or Correa can’t be signed, (2) according to Baseball Trade Values, it would cost you a package of Mayer, Verdugo and 2 top 25 pitching prospects (better than parting w/ Casas, Bello & Bleis), and (3) you’re able to extend either Adames or Burnes within their first year here.

According to BTV, for Burnes, Yelich, and Adamas an offer of a Starbucks gift card, a Number 1 foam hand, and a Fenway Frank is still an overpay. I doubt Milwaukee would agree.
