I have moderated these forums for more than 15 years (eek) at this point. We have always been very focused as a staff about keeping the forums organized and structured so that it does not become one massive rambling crosswide conversation. It allows folks to participate in the discussions they want to participate in while avoiding the ones they don't want to participate in. It's part of what allows us to be one of the better places on the internet to talk about the Red Sox and their farm system.
I did not lock the Chaim Bloom thread and am honestly not sure why it was locked (there is no discussion about it in the staff forum). I agree that there should be a place to discuss the front office, but the 2023 40-man roster thread is not the place to do it. As I've stated two or three times now, please feel free to start a new thread to discuss a new topic rather than derailing an existing thread. This is all covered in the forum ground rules. |

I don't think I'm a piss baby who ruins every thread. As I said, I'm on the side of a common-sense middle ground. And I'm not a Never Bloomer by any stretch. I think he's done some good things since he's been here. But I'm frustrated with him recently. Totally reasonable, what’s not reasonable are the same people polluting every thread with their repetitive garbage Thanks. I'm willing to be patient with Bloom because he gave me one of my most joyous Fenway visits ever. That's the one-gamer against the MFY to advance to the 2021 ALDS. Adults dancing - yes, encouraged by alcohol, I'm sure, but real dancing! - in the area behind the home plate grandstand after the last out. People hugging people they didn't even know. I recall MFY fans waiting near the team bus on Jersey Street for their guys to come out. They all looked like their dog just died. Good times. |

I locked your thread because others were trolling the fact that you described Bloom as being the GM in the thread title and immediately spun off all substantive posts into a new thread.
This "you can't say Bloom" stuff is ridiculous. The issue is not and was never that you can't criticize Bloom. I personally have disliked pretty much all of the moves this offseason (other than Martin). The issue is and has always been the handful of individuals who feel so aggrieved that they turn every thread into a referendum on the Betts trade, not signing Xander, not extending Devers, etc. It's fine if you hate Chaim Bloom! You just shouldn't post the equivalent of "Bloom sucks" on every thread because that inevitably turns the thread into the usual anti- and pro-Bloom back and forth.

I've praised the mods because I think you guys generally do a good job. But sometimes a little tough love is needed.
The poster who opined that you guys should avoid some of your snark and rudeness was dead right. A MTBNL (Mod To Be Named Later) jumped on me on July 4 for making the reasonable observation that the Red Sox were heading for a tough stretch on the schedule and could end up being sellers at the deadline. He acted like, well, as CDJ would say, a piss baby. It's not the only time I've seen that guy act that way and other mods get carried away, too. I'll say that I think James Dunne and Vermont are the best and leave it at that.
The Red Sox went 8-17 the rest of the July.
