Evan Lazar is speculating Trent Brown sitting out last two practices is because he wants what Judon just got. I really hope that's wrong, Judon deserved it. Brown is lucky to have a chance to earn $11 million this year, no other team was going to give him that contract after last year. Does speculate Brown should be back for Joint Practices.
Also says chances of seeing Anderson before end of camp sound not good. Converting Sow to OT, yet he has a long way to go, likely for next year.
Reiff and McDermott haven't exactly been doing great either. McDermott better run blocker than pass blocker.
On the one hand our defensive pass rushers are crazy, adding a healthy Barmore and White to last years unit. Reports Uche looks better than last year. On the other hand this is worst case type crap, instead of getting better we have injuries, guys sitting out and whatever Anderson non football issue is. If it wasn't for the two rookies, especially Mafi the OL would be a dumpster fire. At minimum it looks like we've got the needed interior depth we lacked last year. Still OT is currently a dumpster fire.

Should keep him motivated.

Trent reported early, passed the conditioning test, and was seen by multiple beat guys handling a post-practice sprint with ease.
So to speculate on his being on the lower fields due to "conditioning," seems incongruent with the reported facts.
My guesses:
1) Trent wants mid to top vet LT pay, so it's a hold-in, of sorts; 2) Bill is getting looks at others -- he knows what Trent looks like & wants a look at others. It is early in camp & there are a lot of new (and returning from injury) OL players.
It's an either/or for me, at this point. Too little information to have any sort of real opinion.
Edit to add: it might just be he has a "tweak" and trainers feel better safe than sorry.

Here's an interesting chart showing potential cap issues or cap casualties looming in 2024:

You are either at practice or sent to the other field to work on conditioning and it's called the conditioning field. That isn't speculation as it 100% happened. He then sat out two practices which Lazar speculates might be a contract thing. You can certainly speculate why he was sent there, yet it certainly happened. I'd also point out a conditioning test is a bare minimum type thing to allow you to practice. It doesn't mean your in great shape. Now I'm just passing information along, I have no clue what is going on. All we know two days on conditioning field, followed by two days of no practice. My personal opinion is that it's not Bill wants to look at other players. Not given the reports we got from the 4 days he missed, it wasn't good.

Here's an interesting chart showing potential cap issues or cap casualties looming in 2024: Love the site, not a fan of the analysis. I'm in Panthers country right now and Austin Corbett jumped off this list as not belonging in the top 10 for two reasons: 1. He was awesome last year. 2. His contract has him fairly locked in. He only has this year and next on his contract and his dead money hit is greater than his cap hit in 2024. Even as a post-June cut in 2024 he has a $4M cap hit to a $6M savings. He could maybe get cut post-June, but barring a terrible 2023 it's not likely. With that kind of leverage, he's not likely renegotiating his contract for a pay cut either. (cut or pay decrease are what the analysis considers a negative contract fate) I sort of get what they're trying to do, but I think the model is oversimplified/underdeveloped because (barring anything crazy) Corbett seems relatively safe and doesn't belong in the top 10 of this list. I think the "negative fate odds" and the example of Corbett you cite, have little/nothing to do with a specific player other than how his particular status (age, position, contract length, etc.) has historically been treated. Caveat: this is my interpretation of the column but I'm open to the idea I've got it wrong (not a big consumer of this site). Note the author's comment on Nick Chubb: "Chubb would seem most likely to beat the odds." In other words the historical data suggests he is contractually in peril, but Chubb seems a good bet to beat those odds. & based on your argument, maybe Corbett is too. What I focused on was which significant contributors had contract decisions on the immediate horizon. The Patriots have a few, but they are mostly smaller contracts and near the bottom of the list.

You need to look at production, replacements and cap situations. Historically lots of free agent deals are bad and a lot of teams get themselves in cap trouble. So those numbers get skewed.

Trent Brown at practice, not participating again. Anderson seen at practice for first time, but in street cloths.

I can’t believe their first pre-season game is Thursday. The lack of practice time is something else.

Patriots may have gotten 5 or 6 starters out of this draft. Gonzalez (no doubter), White (likely future starter), Mapu (no doubter), Sow/Andrews/Mafi (likely one future starter there), Ryland and Barringer (both likely), and Demario Douglas.
Insane class, injuries not withstanding.
Also took the family to training camp yesterday. Tyquan looked pretty good in 11’s.

Don't forget Boutte who per reports has come on the last 4-5 practices, nevermind Bolden getting first team reps and working at punt returning. Sow, Andrews and Speed haven't been generating much noise at least on daily Twitter updates. Those bums lol.

Pats Beat Twitter has been all over Boutte's practice plays over the past week. I've followed him since college due to fantasy football interest, and I'm really hoping his leg injury in 2021 was just worse than advertised and he's closer to the 5*/1st round talent he looked like as opposed to more recent 2022 & Combine failures. I love when pedigree wins out, and I hope it happens for him soon enough that he forces his way onto the roster. He also showed attitude issues last year (and the weird in/out/in for the 2023 draft), so hopefully he's adding muscle between the ears too.

It's early, but you likely need to carry 6 WRs and it's funny but your 7th has been Tre Nixon who's been the better deep threat than Thornton so far in camp. I just don’t see them giving up on him so soon, but he's likely your #7 guy right now, went 4/5 practices without a catch. It's why I rated him lower when I watched tape, had a long way to go with his routes and body.

Trey Flowers back for another workout However ... Chris Jones trade rumors are hopping. Chiefs have already come with the denial. If BB was ever to open the checkbook for a player ... can you imagine THAT GUY in the middle of our defense?

I’ll believe it when I see it but I do hope they keep 6 since they won’t cut Thornton and he’s probably a trick play, try to scheme him open type guy. Boutte is nice to see get going, and I think he can be a solid pro but his ceiling is limited by a lack of explosiveness.

This is your classic example of a football player in pads versus a guy in shorts running a crazy fast time. Yeah Thornton in shorts is impressive, but he's crazy raw in pads. Boutte in shorts was bad, but very impressive in pads. Boutte just made the best catch of training camp last practice. He makes crazy catches and has this crazy vision and ability to just glide through the D, like he's not even trying against SEC teams. As Mike Reiss just said he's made one impressive catch every time he's watched him play.
