FYI, we are aiming to have our 2023 season begin rankings posted to the site on or around Wednesday, April 5. It's technically after the Triple-A season starts, but the other affiliates don't start until April 6. That will leave us with 2 weeks after our spring training trip to digest the scouting and discuss.

Am I correctly reading David Hamilton's spot at 26 and previously at 33? Shouldn't it be (26) instead of (33) following the similar pattern of the other player rankings?

Is there a list of previous rankings? I know you guys switched to refreshing the “previous ranking” column at the start of each season, but it would be nice to see at a glance who’s moved up and down.

Also, is there a way to see which players have had their scouting reports updated?

I know you guys switched to refreshing the “previous ranking” column at the start of each season, but it would be nice to see at a glance who’s moved up and down. We publish our rankings history 3x per year at www.soxprospects.com/history.htm, so you could compare against the 2022 season ends rankings listed there. Beyond that we generally don't publicly track month to month changes because minor changes often don't mean anything but they can still tend to get misinterpreted and exaggerated. With that, here are the bigger changes since our February update: Bryan Mata up 1 to #6 Shane Drohan up 10 to #12 Chris Murphy down 4 to #17 Marvin Alcantara up 10 to #21 Brainer Bonaci down 6 to #22 Luis Guerrero up 4 to #25 Christian Koss up 5 to #28 Chase Meidroth up 6 to #30 Brooks Brannon down 6 to #31 Allan Castro up 11 to #33 Luis Ravelo up 11 to #34 Jedixson Paez down 7 to #35 Johanfran Garcia debuts at #37 Christopher Troye debuts at #39 Phillip Sikes debuts at #45 Alex Hoppe debuts at #46 Andy Lugo debuts at #47 Tyler Uberstine down 16 to #50 Alex Binelas down 16 to #51 Johnfrank Salazar down 17 to #54

dd used to do that for the observers and also who fell off. It was a nice touch and I don't know if he is still on the site or not,but it was welcomed.

Reviving this thread at I'm looking forward to the site's rankings updates this season.
I'm curious if the Pitching hierarchy has changed (w/ Drohan's statistically good start to the season)

I got a question. What should I make of discrepancies between scouting reports and grades when it comes to a prospect's ceiling? E.g., Valdez' write-up says "ceiling of a bat-first utility player" but his ceiling grade is a 5, "Average Regular." Abreu's write-up says "ceiling of major league reserve outfielder" but he also gets a 5 for his ceiling grade. David Hamilton: "ceiling of an emergency up-and-down utility type," also gets a 5. Etc.

Maybe a definition of ceiling is needed like this is the players 80th percentile possibility. No one had Mookie's ceiling as 2nd best player in baseball after he was drafted or even as he rose in the minors.

I read it as the player profile ceiling is what they project as without any further profile/skill development, whereas the splash page ceiling is the more common use of ceiling (e.g. Valdez can become an everyday regular if his defense develops to something much closer to average). The more likely explanation is just that this kind of thing is inevitable when there is a collaborative effort to rank players and information is in more than one place, perhaps written by more than one person.

I think its that the rankings page offers a rough projection to contextualize the ranking of each player, whereas the projections in a players scouting report are reflective of that scouting report. In other words, the rankings page should be current, while the player page is only updated when they are scouted.

Casas and Kelly graduated. Olds, Binelas, and McElveney fell out of the top 60.

My personal opinion
Blaze-Abreu-Bonaci should be way higher
Perales in the top 10 and I feel like he should be lucky to be in the top 20. Cutter should be closer to 30-35
Other then that everything else seems very good and I appreciate all the hard work you guys do!!!!

Perales probably has the best fastball in the system and potential plus curve and 55 change. The full stuff package is the best in the system. He's probably the second best pitching prospect in the system at this point.
On the walks, note that sometimes young guys need to learn how their stuff moves before they can control it. I'm not terribly worried, yet. No, he's not Espinoza, but nothing I'm concerned about at this point.
Now, if you were to respond that this isn't a good statement about the state of pitching in the farm, I wouldn't push back on that.

Chris what about Liu? Is he just in a short stretch where he shoves or has he turned the corner? I know the consensus was best case, middle reliever, but the pitch mix and velo sound really good.
