By the way, since we're all learning it, it's pronounced as though you are telling someone to back off: he's not Your Droth, he's My Droth. It's not pronounced as though you are living in the jungle: "You Tarzan, Me Droth."

I'm not sure if they will update this, as it's not fully comprehensive and seems to date to the start of the season, but Portland's "Online Press Box" has a link to a SoundCloud page with players saying their own names. I believe this should be mandatory for all clubs, personally. |

My German prof used to say “two vowels went a-walkin’, the second did the talkin’” I have a first grader and I think I understand less about how English pronunciation works now than I did before helping him with his homework assignments. Every time we got a rule about "two vowels together make THIS sound" or some such, it would be accompanied by, "Well, there's a bunch of exceptions, too." Thank goodness he figured it out on his own and can now read pretty well independently. |

English is not easy. There are words spelled the same and pronounced differently (lead the way - lead weight) and words spelled differently but pronounced identically (read/reed; led/lead2...). In fact, the pronunciation of read is context dependent, past versus present tense. It's also absorbed words from everywhere - native American, Turkish via Spanish, French, German,... I sympathize with you.

Why does Fitzgerald always bat 8th or 9th? The guy is batting .315 with a .965 OPS. There are some really bad hitters who always hit in front of him in the lineup.

I compared him to Napoli in spring training... it's not that he's, like, an abysmal catcher. It's that his bat is the asset, and that once he's freed from catching, which is a hard job and really not what he's good at, I think there's a good chance the bat finds another gear.
