Watching the Greenville game this morning and I like Coffey’s breaking ball, especially vs righties. Moves away from right handed batters and he’s already gotten several swing and misses on the pitch just through the first couple of innings.

Coffey just got screwed by luck for his second allowed run of the game. Runner on second was stealing third so Jordan went to cover and the batter hit a weak ground ball exactly where Jordan was, but it rolled into left field because Jordan was covering the bag. Easy ground ball that should have gotten him out of the inning with no runs allowed, but good base running by Brooklyn get them a run. Brooklyn has been running all over Erro who hasn’t even been close on any of his throws.

Always great to have a couple lunch-time baseball games on MILB.tv, especially with a couple pitchers I'm wanting to get my eyes on. It's crazy how smoky that view is from center field in Brooklyn.

Coffey’s day is done.
5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 Ks.
I like the breaking ball and the arm angle…but his last pitch of the game was a strikeout swinging on an 88 mph fastball. If they can add a couple digits to his fastball, I think he can pitch. I just don’t see how he can succeed at that velocity in the upper minors.

Cutter Coffey with his first pro homer.

Cutter Coffey with his first pro homer. Took a fastball on the top of the zone and crushed it past the left field wall. The pitcher is the Royals’ number two prospect and sits mid-90s with his fastball.

A number of relievers over age 24 in Portland performing well. Older relievers in Worcester... struggling.
I hope we see some changes soon. Promotions

This ABS system is NOT good in AAA. Harder for pitchers and easier for hitters. I have to believe this year BB's are up, BA's are up, K's are down.

Promotions Before the season the Boston rotation looked like: Sale, Paxton, Bello, Whitlock, Pivetta Injuries to start the season left only: Sale and Pivetta, so to supplement Houck and Crawford were added to the rotation and Winckowski to the bullpen. Where am I going with this….the AAA rotation looked great before the season: Crawford, Winckowski, Mata, Walter, Murphy…. Crawford and Winck have been in Boston (deserved so), Mata couldn’t find home plate and is now injured, Walter is a different pitcher than last year and getting blasted, and Murphy looks like he could be good…..in the BULLPEN. No wonder that great AAA rotation is now completely devoid of prospects (oops Drohan is now up - but has gotten his shit handed to him in 3 of his first 4 starts….) Maybe it’s just the Polar Park Vortex……

My point was more the need to ‘refill the bucket’….as in the depth from Worcester moved to Boston, and the Portland pitchers, except Drohan, have not moved up to fill the void leaving Worcester devoid.

I'd be curious to read if Binelas has gotten used to the swing change that was made in 2022.
Has he continued to tinker with his hand placement etc. or has he reverted back mechanically? As he's making more solid contact during this brief June stretch.

I just want them to promote Mata for the bullpen. Enough is enough. They keep pushing these kids to keep them as starters. If Tampa can get by with what they do why can’t we have 3 guys that go into bullpen can do multiple innings.
I keep harking back to 2021. Cora looked like a genius he had Houck and Whitlock to save his bacon. They rode that all year. My point is maybe combination of Murphy, Mata and Walter.
I know Mata is hurt but I remember on a podcast a long time ago sometimes the kids stay at a level. They started great and hitting a tough patch. But it could just be there bored. I hope these guys get a look. That’s all. It’s frustrating.
I know Mata is hurt but just the way it played out more so.
