Rafaela with 2 more hits and his 30th SB and 8th CS last night.
Since 5/19:
.343/.372/.549/.921
5.3% BB rate 15.0% K rate
.206 Iso .029 IsoD
.365 BABIP
.398 wOBA 140 wRC+
Perfect placeholder for Mayer......
ADD: During that 26 game stretch, he only failed to reach base twice. Once when he had one AB as a pinch hitter and one where it was his second game of the day.

Curious in general is the consensus that Rafaela will and/or should get run at shortstop in Boston before Hamilton does?

His hitting profile reminds me of early career Josh Reddick, that would be pretty valuable given his defense

Well deserved for all 3. Interesting to see who goes to Worcester, but Sharp & Van Belle make sense, as you and/or Chris mentioned previously somewhere. Also, wouldn't be surprised to see Monegro moved up to Salem after tonight's start if he continues to dominate.

Coffey leads all of A+ in K/BB. If you drop the qualifier to 40ip, Dobbins is first and Coffey is second. It’s by a lot. Dobbins 8.8, Coffey 8.3, Pierson Ohl (MIN) 8.2, Josh Stephan (TEX) 7.38. No one else is above 6.

Am I skimming the list too quickly or is Hunter Dobbins not in the top 60? Would imagine he's due for a pretty significant jump, especially if he has a couple of good starts in between now and the July re-rank.

It feels like the system is loaded with that mid-tier type prospect that Dombrowski used to thrive trading away at the deadline for rental bullpen and bench guys.

Might be the newest member of the Worcester rotation.

Might be the newest member of the Worcester rotation. Does he still have that wild jump delivery? EDIT: NM, that was his former teammate, Carter Capps

DSL Red game suspended (rain) in the top of the 1st. Arias already had a hit before the game was called.

Cespedes with another extra base hit-this one a two run double in the first. Now has 8 XBHs to only 6 Ks. He’s only walked three times in 44 PAs but I wonder if that’s just because he’s hitting every good pitch they throw him.

So much more upside than Hamilton even w/ some questions surrounding his plate approach. That said, his glove is multiple tiers above Hamilton.

Loving these aggressive promotions! Give it another couple of weeks to a month and Bastardo, Wikelman, and Perales need one too.

Chris Smith of Masslive had an article on Dobbins from a couple weeks back. It sounds like his velo is back relative to the 2022 reports/looks, which had him sitting in the low 90s. I’m especially interested to hear about the splitter. I do think he could jump as high as the mid/late teens if the stuff ticking up is legit, and he does this for a month or two in AA. Almost definitely not for the July re-rank, but maybe he can get there by August if the offspeed stuff has improved to the point that he can profile as a starting pitcher. LINK

Moises Semerite bumped up to #2 in the order and got on base a couple times, OPS over 1000. Him, Starlyn Nunez and Frederick Jimenez are low bonus guys performing well and getting some respect on the lineup card.

If so, I bet they leave him in Greenville until then

But man, it would be so sick to see him in that Portland lineup.

Regarding Rafaela's approach, a recent article by Speier would seem to indicate it's basically solved. No subscription but NESN quoted a lot of the article here: nesn.com/2023/06/top-red-sox-prospect-close-to-being-ready-for-triple-a-promotion/
“His training off the field has been great,” Red Sox farm director Brian Abraham told Alex Speier of The Boston Globe. “It’s been consistent. He’s worked his butt off. He’s very aware of who he is and where he needs to go to have more success at the upper levels. He’s certainly pushing. He’s starting to show that he’s close to being ready for it.”
“(Being tentative) was a bit of a problem at the beginning of the season,” Rafaela said in May, per Speier. “I wasn’t really pulling the trigger. I wasn’t, ‘Yes, yes, no.’ I was more like, ‘No, no, yes.’ I was missing balls, swinging and missing. “So I switched how I am, just keep doing my thing (attacking pitches), and just letting the bad ones go. I’m starting to get it right now.”It was only about a week ago that Alex Cora, out of the blue, made the statement that it wouldn't bother him if a player went directly from AA to Boston. He didn't say a name.

If you were to read the gameday, Rafaela's first hit last night was an infield single. If you watched the game, you would note that the defense doesn't shift right very much. Rafaela took the first pitch of the game opposite and hit a line shot one bouncer (or maybe not) to the third baseman that almost knocked his glove off. Too hot to handle isn't a gameday word.
