Can’t complain about that! Good athleticism/upside. I’m betting on one of the comp picks being well under slot at this point

He fit the Red Sox archetype and importantly nobody ever talked about the Red Sox drafting him which made this pick a lock

Looking at the #50 pick, here are my preferred candidates from MLB's top 100 list, along with my rationale: Nazzan Zanatello - best name in the draft Maui Ahuna - second best name in the draft Gino Groover - third best name Homer Bush Jr. - nominative determinism Grayson Hitt - nominative anti-determinism (he's a pitcher) Great call here incandenza.

He's a SS from Christian Brothers College in MO Baseball America: 110 MLB Pipeline: 52 Perfect Game: 85 Kiley McDaniel: 64 Keith Law: 33 Wow no consensus on him as a prospect. Well a toolsy high school shortstop, so…

Would love any of Cam Johnson, Aidan Smith, Bitonti, or Sorrell tomorrow if we can squeeze another HS guy out of the top of the draft

Giants were connected to Walker Martin a lot at 16 and now they get him in the 2nd.

Is it possible that Keith Law may actually say something positive about the Red Sox???!!!

Went back to my original board in late April and Zanatello was a guy I’d had as a potential Romero “off the board” pick at 14, so can’t hate it at 50.

Pretty sure he was the most effusive in praising Teel throughout the process, as well.

He also had the longest Broad Jump at the Combine at 10-feet-4. He checks a lot of the traditional scouting boxes as a projectable infield athlete with plus arm strength, general athleticism and frame projection. He'll likely be drafted as a shortstop but is not a lock to stay there, though he definitely ahs the arm. There's already an ability to create big power in a short distance here, and Zanetello will have grow into a lot of power if he gets so big that he has to move off of shortstop. He has the talent to be an everyday third baseman. Interesting. NFL used broad jump to test athletic explosian from the core. Tests as explosive athlete.

FG should have Zannatello in the Sox 7-13 range after accounting for Teel.
I’ll guess SP puts Teel at #6 and Zannatello at #13

That's why the Marlins have the best young pitching rotation in baseball. Draft 10 elite young pitchers and hope for 1 home run, 3 doubles, 2 singles, and 4ks to build an elite rotation. Red Sox need to start doing deals with the Marlins. Is it though? Their current crop includes Sanchez, Luzardo and Alcantara, who they got in trades, Cabrera and Perez who were IFAs, and Garrett, Mayer, and Rogers, who were all first-round picks. They went all pitchers in 2020 and were one of the heavy pitching teams last year but I'm not sure their current depth at or near MLB has anything to do with that, yet at least. Maybe "Draft" wasn't the right word, but emphasizing upside pitching in trades and IFA signing coupled with drafting elite pitching prospects early in the draft seems to be their move. I also noticed in 2022, the Marlins drafted a hitter in RD 1 and pitching in Rds 2-10. However, I do believe the Marlins have the best young pitching rotation in baseball.

Early impressions: Devin Pearson is killing his first draft. 4 picks in the next two rounds tomorrow and some more impact should be added to the system.

That would put Zanetello about 12 on Sox prospects board

for some strange reason it helps your draft if you have competitive balance picks..very strange.

"Zanetello was a flawless pick for the Red Sox and their cadre of hitting prospects is now tops in the majors. Unfortunately because their system is unbalanced between hitters and pitchers, I have no choice but to rank their system 30th overall."
