Winning three of four is acceptable but where are the bats? We know this team can hit and has hit well against good pitchers so this long cold stretch is hard to fathom. This was my prevailing thought as well. Every game of late seems to be low scoring no matter who is pitching for the other team. One thing that has really stood out to me while watching the sox hit, is the lack of a clear, consistent approach. I don't think I've ever seen a team take/miss so many pitches in the middle of the zone that should have been crushed. Not only that, but they also continuously chase pitches out of the zone. Thinking back to the great sox teams in recent years, they always did 3 things at the plate: 1) Work the count 2) Don't chase crap out of the zone 3) Do damage on good pitches to hit. This team looks like they have no plan up there. The number of times I've see a hitter go up 3-1 and either take or foul off a low 90's fastball is truly shocking.

We need a truth and reconciliation commission for the scouting reports on Casas' defense. This may explain the sudden decline of his defense 😜

Giving me hope on Casas' D at 1st moving forward is that all of the 5 worst 1Bs by OAA last year (excluding Franchy) are fine or even positive by OAA this year. And I think he has the physical tools to be fine.

It's hard for me to picture him moving with the quickness and agility to be a really good defensive player. Which is one reason I'm confused by those scouting reports about his defense...
Certainly there's room for improvement just by cutting down on the mistakes though.

My hope is for adequate. I figure his feet may be bad, but hopefully he can have good hands (so good at scooping etc). He is a big target, so I hope he can make the rest of the IF slightly better by rescuing a few errant throws (lookin’ at Raffy).

I feel like a majority of the plays he's looked the worst on this year have been mobility based (lateral movements/extension). I feel like that's difficult to make significant improvements on, when you just happen to be a more awkward athlete (I think "lumbering" is an apt description)... He probably isn't going to be making tons of game changing, diving plays to save doubles and triples in his career.. That being said, I think there has been noticeable improvement already since the first couple months of the season in terms of his ability to 1. Make picks/better hands 2. Higher IQ decisions on throws when runners are on. "Adequate" is probably the ceiling, and I think he will be able to achieve that. Which is ok with me, particularly if he's hitting 30+ HR, 100+ RBI, .850+ OPS in the middle of the order.

Fine and really good are far apart though! If he were like -3 OAA instead of -9 we'd all be shrugging. Plenty of 1Bs who look and move like Casas that are acceptable enough defensively.
