Teel 2/2 obviously high A is too easy for him. When is he getting promoted to double A? J/k He don't look like the other High A players, that's for sure.

Thoroughly off topic aside from the thread title and some of the conversation, but as a decade-long veteran of video store management I've listened to the Last Waltz an extraordinary number of times--it was my go-to "it's a crazy busy weekend night and folks will wait more patiently if they have something awesome to listen to" choice. That said I'd never heard/seen this version of "The Weight" until yesterday and it's an immediate favorite. This is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Also it never struck me how much of a Ringo drum part that is. But yeah, that's a Ringo drum part. Quick poll on best song on the Last Waltz? I'll go Caravan. Best part is Levon explaining the midnight ramble to Scorsese. I used Wolcott's Rabbit's Foot Ministrels as a fantasy team name for a while.

And if you're in the Boston area--looks like this is at the Coolidge on September 7 (and I have my ticket already).

Téel walked in his last PA but unfortunately he has a whiff on the 2nd pitch of that PA 😞 His first swing and miss in Advanced A.

Then he pulled a Bubba Chandler fastball real hard down the line and took out the shortstop on his slide into second The camera syncing makes it look like he teleports the ball to second base. Also I love that the majority of posts on this thread are dedicated to the title. Truly an all time great.

Dixie for me but a strong 2nd for Coyote if only because I learned to appreciate Neil Young's gf there. Scorcese knitted a masterpiece.

Coyote and Dixie are in my top 3 with Van the Man (Robbie saying that as Van stumbles off stage, probably to hit the Cocaine mound again, elevates the song for me. Plus the kicks). Go team.
I think I like the version of Dixie from Before the Flood a little more? Is that weird? Might just be that I discovered that one first.

Complicated history with his bandmates (I'm probably Team Levon, although I'll admit to not having done an encyclopedic dive into the history there) but no debating the music Robbie left us. The solo album from 1987 is also quite good with a lot of guest musicians, including Peter Gabriel, U2, The Bodeans, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson and Maria McKee (and a make-out session with her in the video). Broken Arrow, Hell's Half Acre, Sonny Got Caught in the Moonlight and Somewhere Down that Crazy River are all stand-out tunes. But yes, Team Levon all the way. You don't screw-over your bandmates, take credit for their work and cut them out of royalties. Period. Forgive the digression but it means a bit to me... On leave from boot camp, myself and a buddy were stupid enough to think we could get tickets to see The Band, but lucky enough to not need them. It was the night they drove the fences down at Harvard Stadium, a show that Helm describes in his biography. Reading This Wheel's on Fire is a time machine right back to the start of it all when they were Ronnie Hawkins backup band. It's hard to overstate how transcendent The Band was and how much they deserved that name. After all those years playing and singing together they were other-worldly in the way they worked together. The music was without a doubt a brilliant group collaboration and that led to the bad blood, but many of the songs were exactly what Robertson said they were from his ideas and with his words. Helm, the only non-Canadian and a Southerner was able to carry them off, and for that he should get the credit as should his band-mates creating such timeless music. I was going to mention that solo album and the follow-up Storyville. But that was just two stops on the path to a very long career that spans rockabilly to Scorsese epics. Want to know how Robertson could play guitar? Here's Who Do You Love from those early days backing Hawkins where he absolutely rips it up: ...and here's the number Guidas mentioned - Somewhere Down That Crazy River: But my favorite will always be King Harvest has Surely Come: Garth Hudson... there all gone but him.

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is flat out one the 20 or so best rock songs ever. Great Band! Amazing amazing song. I always thought the Black Crowes played this one perfectly and really captured the bleakness/desperation of the lyrics, too:

Anyone who likes the song should listen to it.
