The DSL and FCL regular seasons end one week from today. Doesn't look like either DSL team will make the playoffs. The FCL team is two games back of the Pirates for the division and tied with the Braves for the wild card spot (although the Braves have played two more games) and .5 game ahead of the Phillies (who have played one more game).

Probably worth checking in on the other teams in terms of playoffs. Note that every full-season league now uses first and second halves - AAA and (I think?) AA didn't do so previously. Latter may have.
Worcester: Tied for division lead, season ends 9/24
Portland: 2.5 back in the division, but Somerset won the first half, so they're 0.5 back of the actual playoff spot (Binghamton) while tied with Hartford and 0.5 up on Reading. Dogfight going there. Season ends 9/17
Greenville: Already won first-half title. Playoffs start 9/12.
Salem: 9.0 back so not realistically in contention. Season ends 9/10.
FCL: As mentioned, 2 back in the division, virtual tie they win by winning percentage for wild card (and note they're not necessarily going to make the games up - they've had games canceled because the teams don't care to make them up down there (not like there's paying fans). Season ends 8/22.
DSL: Blue and Red are 10.5 and 12.5 games back in division, respectively, 7.5 and 9.5 back of the wild card with a bunch of teams ahead of them. Season ends 8/22.

Looks like Deundre Jones made a catch to end the bottom of the second and didn't come out for the bottom of the third.
Rivaldo Avila walked in the top of the third and was replaced in the bottom of the inning as well.

Is this the first game with the 2022 Draft bonus babies all in the lineup at the same time? Romero was hurt all year when Anthony was in Salem and Coffey never made it to Salem last year with Anthony and Romero.

Roman Anthony picks up his 5th and 6th hits off LHP this year on a couple of line drives to left and center. Super impressed with these also - misses on a high and away fastball from a lefty with a flat arm angle early in the first at bat. Later in the at bat he takes a fastball away the other way with a line drive. First pitch the second at bat he rips a fastball away back up the middle. Pitcher (CWS top 30 prospect also - 27) may have missed his spots a tiny bit (might have been wanted it a tiny bit higher), but Anthony looked tough and adjusted to a pitch that would be a long term concern. Same pitcher was very tough on Romero in his debut game at the level. |
