Brentz BB/K ration is around 0.42 right now. While that may not be great, it's better than is 0.30 ration last year in AA and 0.34 ration the year before in A/A+ and then 0.27 in Lowell. So he seems to be improving this, admittedly in SSS. What are acceptable BB/K rates? At what point does it start to get more concerning? For those that have seen him this year in person, what are you seeing? Does he seem to have made some improvement in his pitch selection/patience? Generally speaking, league average is 20%(K%) and 10%(BB%).

See this chart for league-average walk and strikeout rates over the last few years-- note the eight years of increased strikeout rates in a row.

So far we've got three rations whatever that is, and a Julio Iglesias. Let's clean it up, people.
On the other hand, Workman making a late push for pitcher of the month?

@seadogsradio 6m Brandon Workman has retired the first 12…dominating with every pitch…3 K's. 42 pitches/30 strikes. Portland leads 1-0 after 3
Looks like someone heard the SP podcast say he doesn't have dominating enough stuff to be a starter.

Chris, my apologies. I read your report again. It was conjecture on your part. I rushed to judgement. It's apparently tough waiting, for godot.

Really nice to see two SPs pitching well in AA in the early going, before they have to be on the 40 man. Very much the opposite of Britton/Pimentel.
Ranaudo 39th overall in 2010 draft Workman 52nd overall in 2010 draft
Behind Vitek (20) and Brentz (36)

A higher arm slot. Better overall command and better consistency of curveball.

"I heard that Brandon Workman cleaned up his delivery. "
If that's legit, could push the projection, for sure. Even despite the jerkiness of his delivery, most reports have had him keeping velocity/stuff deep into starts. Just 4 strikeouts, but great pitch efficiency (51 after 5, 64 after 6).
Anyone know what the pitch limit is? 80-ish?

Perfect through 6.2 for Workman, may have tired at 75-80 pitches though (2B, BB, 2B), a run in and prob won't make it out of the 7th.

6 consecutive multi-hit games for Garin Cecchini now.
(.555/.625/1.148/1.773) 15/27, 2HR, 8RBI, 12R, 6BB/3K, 3SB over last 7 games (including first 3AB's today)
Pretty damn impressive...
ADD: 3rd AB, Solo dinger

Bard allowed single, double, wild pitch(a run) and a walk. I am happy not to see that in the big league.

Cecchini's night even more impressive considering the level of pitcher John Lamb is.

I hope they don't hesitate to promote him Only if they promise to toss him into big league camp and let him make the team so he can develop bad habits.

I was in Wilmington tonight. John Lamb was pretty filthy. Cecchini's swing is a thing of beauty, all three XBHs were to the opposite field.

Cecchini's night even more impressive considering the level of pitcher John Lamb is. I'll give you that he's tough on a young lefty but John Lamb post-TJ definitely isn't the guy you think he is. Wipeout curve but mid-80s fastball at this point. And while the home run was laced in a park that's very hard to hit the ball out of, it's the doubles to be more excited about. The first one was harder hit, and hopped the corner for a ground rule double, but they were both smart pieces of hitting where Cecchini went with the pitch away and poked them down the line. Every year people caution against screaming for promotions once May hits and every year someone random goes up, but it's not going to be Cecchini.

To clarify on your last statement, are you saying he won't be promoted in May (not a shock given the names ahead of him) or are you saying that if/when he gets promoted in May, it's not going to be an example of a random guy getting an unexpected bump up?

I'm saying he's not going to. There aren't a lot of ABs to go around in Portland so I don't see anyone forcing the issue until around midseason.
