Wow - just tuned in the Jets game (no Red Sox pushed me to this) - heard about Rodgers. That was quick - for Jets fans, must feel like when Hayward went down for the Celtics in the blink of an eye

Looks like the Patriots will now start 1-3. Wilson is terrible.

One of the worst games I can remember from a QB I actually consider elite. He gave this game away.

He's only going to have a couple of those and one just got used up against the Jets. At least New England won't be their week 2 opponent. From a fantasy perspective I'd love to have Josh Allen as my starter.

Our D looks like the Jets D, it will keep you in almost every game. You never know, this is football, but I'd say the chances we go 1-3 is worse than we go 3-1. Only a few teams have a defensive line like the Eagles and even with all the mistakes, if Bill kicks a FG, we likely win with a FG at the end.

I'd also add, getting a rookie FG kicker a nice like 35 yarder for his first FG attempt would have been ideal. We need to unleash him, look at the kicker on the Eagles and you see why we want after a kicker with a big leg.
Our rookie Punter nailing 65 yard punts to completely change FG position is another big improvement for our D, just like the kicker being able to get touchgacks whenever he wants them.
One thing I'm slightly confused about, why Montgomery over Jones on kickoffs? Montgomery did a nice job, Jones is just a much more explosive returner. Maybe it's wear and tear given his bigger role on D. Where you miss Bolden on IR for years over Speed.
One big note from Bills game, they rushed Harris once and until they realize what a good running game will do for that offense, they won't every reach their true potential. You can't allow a D as good as Jets to just sit back knowing it's likely pass almost every play.

I don't know, that Miami team looked great in LAC whereas New England and the Jets were home (plus 9/11 ceremony) which makes things tougher. Plus, the statement kind of works both ways against the Patriots because they could beat Miami, but if the Jets have a coin flip defense then they're just as likely to lose too them. But Bill has a poor record against Tua (0-4) and going into Dallas. I think the possibility of 1-3 is likely.

LAC had a bad D last year and this year looks the same. Tua put up 13 points last year against our D. You can't just look at first game results without context. Miami D didn't look good, it's not going to be like the Eagles. Last year our offense was a mess, we just put up like 400 yards against a great defensive line with a bunch of mistakes. Going to Miami at home early after having a hot and hummid summer is a huge advantage for us, it's those late season games in Miami that are killers given all the cold we get by then.

Don, you have brought up cursed franchises, where do you rank the Jets on the all-time cursed franchise list? Gotta be at least top 3 right? Best chance at a Super Bowl contender since the first few Rex Ryan years and the franchise savior goes down on the FOURTH play of the season. I hate the Jets almost as much as any other team, but this is just plain cruel

I don't think that's a cursed franchise, that's a poorly ran franchise. I think the Chargers is a perfect example of a cursed franchise, they always seem to have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball and nothing to show for it. Moving out of San Diego didn't help in the curse department.

LAC I feel like if you put Bill Belichick there that team would be something special, like Brady in Tampa. Miami has a softer defense, but that offense looks very legit. ESPN had the Eagles 2nd in the pre-season rankings, Dolphins 6th and LAC 9th. It doesn't mean anything, but it's not very inspiring to see the Dolphins offense put on a show on the road and see Tua complete a comeback. If this becomes a 28-30 point game, can the Patriots keep pace? I don't see the defense keeping them under 17, but if they can keep within 17-20 range it will be a very winnable game. PFF in July thought Miami could have the best defense in the NFL. www.pff.com/news/nfl-dolphins-could-have-the-nfl-best-defense-in-2023#:~:text=The%20Dolphins%20are%20on%20the,about%20in%20Miami%20this%20season. I think that's a bit of a stretch, but the Chargers offense can't be discredited. To be fair to the Miami rush defense, Austin Eckler is maybe a top 5 running back. I don't think either Patriots backs are top 10.

Miami couldn't run, Chargers ran for almost 250 yards and it wasn't just Eckler either, Kelley almost had a 100 yards on 16 carries. Chargers offense very good, it's D sucks. Miami couldn't run and basically passed all game, no sacks and only two QB hits. Yeah Patriots will get much more pressure, your talking the difference of top 5 D versus bottom 5 D. If we get both OG back, which should be likely as they were a game time decision. I'm thinking the chances we blow them out is huge.
No need to debate further, we'll see shortly what happens. I just haven't been this impressed by the Patriots talent level in a long time.

I agree the talent level and enjoyment is already infinitely better. I'm just skeptical because their competition is suppose to be stellar.

A couple of interesting posts I came across today: the 1st an aggregate of three OL rating services assessment of Week 1 pass protection. When tempted to make hard & fast declarations because PFF said, note the variance between scores of the same team by the three rating services (See: Pittsburg). The second chart has individual OL listed who had a tough Week 1. Two Patriots are listed, but notice the expensive veteran company they are keeping. A FUN little chart, eh Lane? pbs.twimg.com/media/F56GD5HWEAAbPyP?format=jpg&name=largepbs.twimg.com/media/F56G5hQXsAAhKFI?format=png&name=largeAlso notable: If the consensus pass pro is to be accepted, Mac had a helluva game on Sunday. This really bodes well for the offense going forward.
