A lot of kickers take time to develop, it's actually rare to get a rookie that's dominant. That's why a lot of people don't take kickers high in the draft. He does have a big leg and he's ten times better on kickoffs than Folk was. A big part in our special teams not sucking like last year, which allowed us to get a punter who doesn't have to be good on kickoffs.
Zappd showed you why he's a good backup, while also showing you why he's likely nothing more than that.
It's a shame we haven't gotten to see Isiah Bolden, perfect year for a guy like him to get playing time at CB and returner.
Reagor returns were darn nice, he showed you something in the open field. Why haven't we used him on some runs? He might be a Patterson type player. The athletic ability is there, he's just not a good route runner and hands are just okay.
Uche showed up slightly with some hurries yesterday, but wow so disappointing after last year. Yeah we have tons of needs on offense, but we need another edge rusher and could also use another DT.
3 more games and we still have a shot at getting the 1st pick! Rodgers is said to be playing soon. All I want for Christmas is 0-3 and first pick

Barmore had a great game putting pressure on the QB and the running game. Seems like he was on tv all game calling his number.

www.espn.com/nfl/insider/insider/story/_/id/39136504/fixing-nfl-most-disappointing-teams-2023-offseason-moves-jets-chargers-patriotsBarnwell ($) fixes all the most disappointing teams. Here's his recommendations for the Pats: 1. Keep Bill Belichick (but add personnel help.) Given number of openings, competition for coaches will be deep, and Defense has been really good. Keep O'Brien too, add maybe Dimitroff. 2. Re-sign Mike Onwenu and Kyle Dugger. Have enough money. Keep Onwenu at RG. Maybe keep Hunter Henry too on a paycut, and Jennings, but not Uche. 3. Add an explosive starting receiver on offense. Decent FA year, but Higgins is only best fit for a young team, and Evans/Ridley/Pittman not as likely to move (IMHO). 4. Make changes at quarterback. Duh! He like me has Caleb/Maye as Tier 1A, Daniels as Tier 1B (maybe worth a top 5), and otherwise think FA. Fields likely costs too much in draft capital and makes sense for a team that's a QB away. 5. Fix the special teams. (also duh!) I'm getting a little antsy about how we fix QB, WR, AND OT this year, even with high picks. Success in all three has to be the basis for any turnaround. I'm terrible at OL judgement so have no idea what free agency looks like, but BB teams seem to have been better at development than good FA signings on the line, until lately when they've been good at nothing. My gut is QB in 1st, WR in 2nd, and OT as first outside FA priority. No faith it'll go down like that.

I'd love to see what he looks like with a full offseason playing just OT and you can't easily do everything at once if you need two OTs.

I would never want to commit big bucks/years to him but I don't hate Bedard's suggestion of also resigning Brown (very short term, very team friendly). Then ALSO commit a high pick in the draft and see what shakes out during camp. No matter who is at QB, you want them to have a chance to develop with an OL that won't get decimated by 1 injury. EDIT - No more Conor McD, et al if someone gets hurt. Brown (LT), Onwenu (RT), Draft Pick (Swing); Brown (LT), Draft Pick if ready (RT), Onwenu (RG) or Draft Pick if ready (LT), Brown (RT) and Onwenu (RG). You're pretty well covered there. Hopefully, move on from T Brown in year 2.

No more Trent Brown please. Best case scenario is he plays well but misses 25% of the year per usual.
How is Fields a good target for a team that’s just a QB away?

Is anyone else worried that Drake Maye's attempts went down (425 this year, 517 last year) and INTs were up (9 to 7)? Of the three: Williams, Maye and Daniels he has the fewest passing yards and TDs, lowest rating, and most INTs. Now he arguably has less talented receivers and lineman than either USC or LSU but I'm wondering if those INTs aren't a sign of trying to do too much, which can be a killer in the NFL.

Field yates doing his pre-draft film study & check out this clip of WR Ricky Pearsall -- you wont see 2 better catches anywhere.
Seriously, this first catch is the very best I've ever seen anywhere. It's take OBJ's one-handed catch and, to add degrees of difficulty: 1) move it to the seam with the ball travelling directly over your head, and 2) have not ONE but TWO defenders hit you right after you snatch the ball (one so forcefully as to draw a flag).
I'm off Marvin & on Ricky!

Now he arguably has less talented receivers and lineman than either USC or LSU but I'm wondering if those INTs aren't a sign of trying to do too much, which can be a killer in the NFL. The Athletic's Diante Lee wrote about the top two QBs today -- excerpt: "Caleb Williams still sports a narrow edge over Drake Maye, but Maye has drawn closer at every checkpoint this year. Williams had two years of incredible production and regularly bailed out USC with his raw talent and creativity out of structure. Meanwhile, Maye’s efficiency within the pocket, processing speed through progressions and anticipation were the anchors for North Carolina’s offense. The two QBs have different throwing mechanics, but both are clean and compact. Maye’s consistently upright posture reminds me of Carson Palmer, as he generates power from the ground up. Williams relies more on creating torque with his core, so his feet can be divorced from his throwing motion without hindering his passes — similar to Russell Wilson or Kyler Murray. The passing profiles and tendencies with throws are where these two really diverge. Maye is an exceptional touch passer, and he can accurately layer throws 15-plus yards downfield as well as any quarterback you’ll evaluate. If you’re pushing the ball vertically, Maye is going to give your receivers a chance to win on the perimeter."

Cole Strange to IR, Patriots claimed QB Nathan Rourke from the Jags
He dominated the CFL last year

Interesting what might happen should Zappe pick up even a minor inj requiring a replacement, in final games. Do they go back to Mack or give Rourke some min's?
* "Similar to Russell Wilson." That's always been my assessment. Eight seasons of Russ'Wilson wouldn't be bad. But I think I'd take Mack though obviously still open.

Jayden Daniels is a tremendous athlete and an accurate thrower. He just doesn’t read it well. Everything is first read or run. It’s a very similar profile to Justin Fields. You seldom see him quickly process in a pocket.

Can someone explain how Bailey Zappe can look like an NFL starter in the first half of games and then look like a practice squad journeyman in the 2nd? Does he have no clue what to do once the script runs out? What is it? Is it a correctable problem?

Does he have no clue what to do once the script runs out? What is it? Is it a correctable problem? Kind of makes sense with his college success. He threw for a million yards at Western Kentucky, where I think it was easier to play-call someone open 30 times a game.

I think the Steelers switched to a more aggressive man defense in the second half versus mostly zone in the first half.

For those saying defensive adjustments. Is that on Zappe or Billy O'Brien?

For those saying defensive adjustments. Is that on Zappe or Billy O'Brien? Probably a combo of both, they withdrew completely into their shell like a turtle against Pittsburgh so that’s more on Billy O imo. SUPER conservative play calling then. Last week may have been more on Zappe trying to do too much in the 2nd half. That pick was really, really bad. It seemed like the chiefs figured out what the pats were trying to do and neutralized them.
