Have to be happy about Bello's season, but I worry most about his K rate. How many great modern day pitchers have a 7.7/9 K rate ? great that he doesn't walk guyx much, but that make me real nervous about his future ceiling Not many other pitchers throw a bowling ball that moves that much, he can put guys away when he needs to Just not today lol let's hope, otherwise, i stand to be right....again.

Red Sox had an 84% win expectancy after the Bobby bomb.

You can't make this stuff up - DOB and Millar having a verbal masturbation contest on improved Sox defense - and Raffy does that.
And then we have this - run 11.
Can people really say that this team hasn't mailed it in since the trade deadline? I am not saying intentionally tanking. I am saying professionally checked out.

I think they've only been mailing it in since September 5th. They went 15-12 in the 27 games prior to that, which is a 90-win pace.

Turner declining to slide. This is comical

I watched the replay of Turner getting tagged at second base a dozen or so times and couldn't tell if he was really out, but the Red Sox are not aware that the challenge system exists so there was nothing to be done about it.

Crazy how much Alex Verdugo's season is saved by his first month and a half. He's .254, .302, .408, .710 since May 22nd. Balanced by a 10.1 UZR rating in RF. Very important in Fenway and 2nd only to Tatis in the majors. But yeah. He has been terrible at the plate this year. Bottom line.

If he needed glasses this entire time, I think we should collectively pants the team ophthalmologist and then have them ride around the outfield in the hopper of a manure spreader. "Apr 3, 2023 [...] Dalbec is sporting glasses when he’s up to bat this season. He explained to MassLive’s Katie Morrison-O’Day that he has passed sight tests every spring training, but did see an ophthalmologist midway through last season. “It showed that I needed to get contacts or some kind of prescription,” Dalbec told Morrison-O’Day. “I hate wearing contacts, so trying glasses, I feel comfortable with them. A little bit of an adjustment period, but it’s coming along." Asking because I don't know: Would a ballplayer getting laser surgery to make his vision 20-12 (like Ted Williams) be considered a PED? And if not, and it allows ball players to see even better and potentially pick up the ball and spin earlier in its trajectory, why wouldn't a AAAA-type player get it?

Your annual reminder that the Rangers have committed an architectural crime against humanity, and should be punished for it. ("Like a megachurch married a livestock auction barn and had a baby" is probably my favorite description of it.) Unfortunately at least one of the Rangers and Blue Jays is going to make the playoffs, but at least we have a chance to help Seattle out here. O'Brien has praised the ballpark in every broadcast of this series.

This level of not caring is a little too much for my tastes. It is brutal. This team is not going to contend in 2024. Just not a starter or two away. The DNA needs to change. In the dugout and on the field. Rebuild with the new head honcho.

At this point even if the Sox wanted to re-sign Turner this offseason why would he want to come back to this gutless squad at his age? Feel like he'd be better off signing for less to go to some actual contender next season. Sure the Sox could take a massive jump forward next year but seems like it'd be too large a jump to ask for them to be real WS contenders.
I guess crazier things have happened and it's not as if the team is completely barren of talent.

Been out… why bring Schreiber in? He’s pitched a decent amount recently and… scoreboard?

I don't know. I keep looking at renderings of the new Rays ballpark and I'm not fired up. The neighborhood looks cool I guess. But the inside of the park still kind of looks like a mall where boy bands cut their teeth. Sorry to put this in a game thread. It's just there's not much to say about this game.

You could as easily say “just ask the Angels about having two of baseball’s best players… that must be a mistake.”
