I want Martin to end the season with a sub-1 ERA.

Well, that was a quick bottom of the 8th. Surely you have to bring Whitlock back out to finish up. Only 6 P in the 8th.

Whitlock is a definitely reliever, but Houck definitely has starter stuff, they just need to refine his pitch usage His third through the order is grotesque. Crawford's ain't very good too 3rd time through. I'd love to have a bullpen stacked with long relievers with a nasty arsenal: Whitlock, Kutter, Houck with Wincowski and Murphy to complement it. It's your security blanket if your SP implodes early, and you can stretch them gradually if one starter goes down. Them having MiLB options comes in handy too. It limits the over used bullpen too.

I don't want to see Tanner in the rotation. It's time to make the nasty reliever switch.
Acquisition
Acquisition Bello Pivetta Sale/Kutter

Check his stats vs. LHB (.896 OPS for the season!!); 1st, 2nd, 3rd time through the order (.610, .787, .910, respectively); and on pitches 1-25, 26-50, 51-75, 76+ (.633, .630, .924, .847, respecitively). He will be a great long or situational reliever vs. RH-heavy teams.

Did I see that right? Dalbec with a 419 foot flyout?

Yeah and after 75 pitches doesn’t look good, but I think he’s an example where our game planning is weak. He needs to leverage his slider against lefties more consistently. I still have faith in him improving his command profile to go deeper, but time will tell! Pitches 51-75 he has a .924 ops against him. Think he's a perfect candidate for a multi inning relief role so we can have Winck, Martin, and Kenley settled in a 7,8,9 role really well. Totally agree given the results so far in his career, but we have potentially Winck, Whitlock, Martin, Jansen, Murphy, Robertson, Bernardino and some decent arms in AA/AAA, so I think we’re going to end up spending big on one arm and one bat (don’t have confidence we’re going to land two big name starters)

He needs to be heavier sinker slider, focus on commanding those pitches. He’s trying to throw 5 different pitches without commanding any of them and that’s bit him. I could be very wrong and obviously the splits don’t support him as a starter, but I still think you see what he has early in the season then convert him if needed. I would rather get one blue chip starter than two starters from the second tier

Two starters better than the Houk, Kutter, Pivetta group will be enough. It has to be two though or we end up in the same quandry.

Snell has too high a walk rate, so it’s Gray/Nola/Montgomery/Yamamoto otherwise I would argue there are no significant upgrades, so unless you can get two of those guys, I don’t see any FA upgrades unless we swing a trade. It just seems to be a bimodal pitching market. Idk how people feel on Imagana either

We got to play spoiler tonight - well played game. Seattle is up on Oakland. Could end up Toronto 83, Texas 82 and Seattle 82 wins at the end of tonight. Great race.

I like your point about trying to throw too many pitches -- focus on two or three in the pen and add 3-5 mph on his power stuff.

Great Chris Martin post-game radio interview.
"When I see that guys are on something, I have several other pitches that I'm commanding well, so I'll switch it up and change the pitch mix." Sounds pretty easy.
