Yeah this teams gonna be hard to beat, I don’t even think they’re playing particularly well and it’s not all that competitive so far Defense looking pretty great in Q1 The Knicks hit 6 more 3s than the Cs, highly unusual, and we still found a way to get the W. 60 more W to go.

There’s a guard in Memphis who is nodding his head with a smirk on his face. He won’t be smirking when he’s fed up with Ja babysitting duty

I love how loose Kristaps was all night. That’s huge for a team that tends to get so tight. Jrue’s last defensive rep against Quickly was insane. Such a good contest in a moment when you cannot foul. Jrue’s box score won’t stick out but he had some big plays down the stretch. His usual great defense too He was a monster defensively. He’s probably even better than Marcus on that end at this stage of their careers. And, of course, he came up with a loose ball at the end to give the Celts another possession. Not a pretty night, but this team should be lots of fun.

ATL tonight from Jaylen. That was probably game right there. Silly me, I forgot they now have THE PORZINGOD. What a debut! The offense can improve a lot though, they need more plays that start with White or Jrue. You have two good playmakers, have them create some shots. This team is going to have a Jaylen problem if he doesn’t adjust to playing off ball.

The defense on this team should be very good. But watching guys (see Jaylen Brown) helping off shooters with Al and Porzingis playing drop was baffling.

This team is going to have a Jaylen problem if he doesn’t adjust to playing off ball. Yeah, he was awful tonight on everything, he just needs to get back to the basics and play under control. He had some good plays here and there on both ends, but the bad parts of his game, especially his passing and ball hogging tendencies (which is a weird mix), were on full display.

Nearing game end - Smart's debut with Memphis - 17 points, -1 +/-, 3 for 6 FTs, 3 assists and 5 turnovers.

Wemby is Thon Maker I’m afraid I quit the game at the half, I can't stand the Mavs f*ckballing. Doncic is too good to play on a team that poorly coached. Wemby had no moves to make it past old friend Grant Williams. That is the guy I think we'll miss the most, considering our current roster.

Lively outplayed him pretty handily, although Wemby did come on in the 4th. Started to be less passive. Starting to feel like a genius with my Lively for $1 pickups in my keeper leagues. That will go away shortly I’m sure One little change I would like to see for the Celtics is for Queta to get Kornet’s 10 or so min next game. Alternate with them until one of them pulls ahead

The Celtics won while only shorting 31% from 3. They lose that game last year. So things weren’t pretty but they figured out a way to win and Tatum looked a lot stronger near the basket. It will be interesting if this new element shows more as the year goes on.

If that's the formula our coach wants, over 50% of shots from deep while being out shot by 20 and only winning because Knicks missed 12 FTs. Yeah I'm not a fan, but congrats you won the turnover margin!

Yeah I'm not a fan, but congrats you won the turnover margin! That’s not at all what he wants and the comments he and they have made, have stated that all off season. Are people just going to complain from the jump and not understand things aren’t going to be perfect from the jump with a ton of turnover? If people aren’t willing to give this at least the first quarter of the season you’re simply going to be frustrated and not enjoy the experience. There was plenty to like about last night and plenty not to like; it’s your choice whether you choose to focus on the negative or not. This stuff is a process it’s not NBA2k.

Mazzulla specifically said he doesn’t want them to pass up open 3’s but he wants them to find other ways to win outside of shooting 40+% from 3 (they were basically a .500 team when they didn’t do that)

If you don’t want them to be a team who shoots a lot of 3s then you should just stop watching now because they will.

Grant got his minutes and did well - as did Rob, Malcolm and Marcus. So a good night all around for Celtics present and past.

Idk if Rob did well, blazers were quite bad with him on the court. They’ve got a ton of new and young parts though so it will probably take some time for them all to get comfy
Grant played a very good game for Dallas. Already taken on a leadership role over there

Like I said when you did, I wouldn't be pointing that out like it's a good thing. You go on about advanced stats say it is, I asked what the advanced stats say the cutoff is and I got no response.

Ok, that’s not what that quote said. I’ll repost it below but that quote is a reflection of last year and it says it’s not a recipe of success. I believe you’re misreading it. “We didn’t force turnovers, and we didn’t get offensive rebounds,” Mazzulla said, “so I recognized it the entire year. If you saw 80 percent of our box scores, we won the 3-point margin (by attempting more 3-pointers than the opponent), but we lost the shot margin. And we were able to make up for that because we were kind of a really skilled offensive team, and we usually won the free-throw margin because we didn’t foul on the defensive end. But that’s not a recipe for long term in the playoffs and on nights when it’s not going well.”

They're still going to be a team that shoots lots of threes. Hell, with Porzingis being able to shoot over most closeouts and Holiday being a better three-point shooter than Smart, they might shoot (and make) more threes on average than they did last year. That's not a bad thing if they can simultaneously tighten up other areas (such as forcing more turnovers or getting more offensive rebounds).
As an aside:
