Regardless of how Mortensen does, the fact that he's pitching the 9th is a perfect example of why Farrell needs to cut the crap with bringing in Tazawa for one batter. It's ridiculous now.

You can pin another one on Farrell.

Salty comes in. Strikes out on a terrible pitch. Then fails to keep the ball in front of him, lets Texas get the winning run into scoring position who eventually wins it.
If that doesn't sum up Salty, nothing does.

You can pin another one on Farrell. Lester killed us. Should have easily been able to pitch 7 or 8 after throwing just 54 pitches through 4 innings. Then he just blew up. Then there is another guy who got inserted late.

You can pin another one on Farrell. Agreed. I hate when the Sox lose stupidly. To me the game was lost in the 8th when Farrell wasted Tazawa for one batter. If his intent was to go with Miller for those three batters, then he should have wasted Mortensen for the one batter or better yet Wilson. Instead he wastes Tazawa meaning that he has an inferior reliever in the game in a high leverage situation in the 9th if the Sox are still tied and very little in options if the game goes extra innings. The best move would have been to let Uehara face that first batter of the 8th and have Tazawa for the 9th and possibly 10th innings. And yes, Salty is a one-trick pony offensively and terrible defensively. Not the catcher I like seeing in the game in the 9th inning. That was not good managing by Farrell, so now the Sox have used Tazawa and Uehara two games in a row in losing causes. They are now set up to have themselves a losing streak unless Buchholz goes 8 innings tomorrow.

Really tired of Salty. I have tried to look at positives but I give up on him. Time to change.

Well that is the key. Buch is gonna have to be the ace he has been this year.
8 innings tomorrow.

]Lester killed us. Should have easily been able to pitch 7 or 8 after throwing just 54 pitches through 4 innings. Then he just blew up. Right, because throwing a few good innings against Texas means that they're no longer a good offense.

Lester with another mediocre outing. It's his third straight. He also has not pitch beyond the 6th in them.

Well that is the key. Buch is gonna have to be the ace he has been this year. 8 innings tomorrow. Stop doing that, this is really annoying. Lester pitched a fine game against a very good team at their home. Just because he didn't reach whatever insanely arbitrary number of innings you set up as a benchmark of good performance does not detract anything away from his day.

Stop hanging a big "FAIL" sign off a pitcher who had a perfectly cromulent outing because of what his team did behind him. It's essentially the same thing as going by pitcher wins.
