I don't really like the sounds of those mechanics changes as they are written up but what the heck do I know. Something to keep an eye on anyway.

From what I can tell, by "last season" he means 2023, and "this season" he means the 11 spring training innings Whitlock has thrown. I'm not sure how many of those innings even had statcast data, so I won't be reading too much into this at the moment.

That would open up a spot on the roster for Rafaela, although he might have had one anyways. Maybe it does more for Cron?

Probably a bench of McGuire, Cron, Reyes/Valdez, and whatever OF is sitting that day (Abreu? O’Neill?) at the moment? It sucks for Rob, but for the Sox they now have a clear runway to keep Rafaela up, yet also if it doesn’t work out early you can just send him to Triple A when Refsnyder is back. That said, we don’t know the severity of the toe injury yet.

Per Ian Brown, Refsnyder out with broken toe.

@tomcaron Red Sox pitcher Josh Winckowski had jury duty Tuesday. As candidates were whittled down he remained, and it looked like he would be selected. Asked if there was any reason he couldn’t serve, he said “I have to pitch in Clearwater Thursday.” He was sent home. #RedSox

And they beat him in the Battle of Midway, too.

Per the Boston Globe’s Julian McWilliams: “The Red Sox are pretty much fixed on internal options more so than external, per source, in the wake of the Refsnyder toe fracture, which the team deems as not that significant. Names such as Tommy Pham, who had a great year last season, are unlikely.”
Is there any reason not to expect Rafaela on the opening day roster at this point? What are the alternative “internal” options replace Refsnyder - like Bobby Dalbec and Romy Gonzalez?

I’ll bet most people in here have no clue to my reference of Yamamoto and Midway.

I’ll bet most people in here have no clue to my reference of Yamamoto and Midway. He was a Japanese admiral, the fun fact for us is that he studied at Harvard so he’s a Boston guy!

I’ll bet most people in here have no clue to my reference of Yamamoto and Midway. He was a Japanese admiral, the fun fact for us is that he studied at Harvard so he’s a Boston guy! Started at Harvard in 1919, so assuming he joined in Fall, his first season in town would have really been 1920, just past The Babe and when we could win World Serieses. Sad Sam Jones and Bullet Joe Bush were our aces and Harry Hooper was the big thumper with 7 HRs in his last season for the Red Sox before changing to pale hose. I'm most familiar with Yamamoto from the West Wing episode "We Killed Yamamoto" where the President tries to build justification for a clandestine assassination of a terrorist-sponsoring "ally." Tail end of the good run of that show.

Not a doctor, but my kid broke his pinky toe last Tuesday and he was back dancing during his musical rehearsals by Saturday without anything more than tape to help.

On the Sopranos, when Chrissy breaks his toe kicking a guy, he tells his girlfriend that it’s pointless to go to a doctor for a broken toe since all they can do is tape it up. This seems to confirm your diagnosis.

I am a doctor, have not broken my toe, can't dance anyway. Maybe tape will help?

His plan was to take Midway, then the Hawaiian islands, and then the US would sue for peace.
