Yeah at some point the numbers don’t lie. Curious if we are trending towards a lineup of meidroth at 2B and Grissom at LF Or Meidroth at 3B while Yoshida is on the IL? Add: But probably what dcb26 says below (you'd most likely blow an option year on a pretty young guy):

Unless Meidroth is an awesome defender (and I don't think his scouting report suggests this) I still think Devers would get the lions share of playing time at third. I'm sure they would rotate him through DH more often though.

I don't want to sound too critical of Meidroth because what he's done in his career to this point is really impressive, but, it is very rare for a player with the lack of hard hard contact/slugging that he is showing to be successful as a starter in the majors. If they want to call him up as a utility player for a bit and see what happens, sure, but I think it would be a mistake to expect him to be very successful in the majors right now, and he would be better off working on adding a little more hard contact. At some point he'll deserve a chance regardless, but he's 22 and in AAA, its OK for him to take some more time and try to work more on driving the ball.

Between, Sogard, Meidroth, Hamilton, Valdez, Yorke and Lugo - there is precious little space in the infield in AAA. I think it's too soon to bring up Meidroth - but there aren't enough spots even with Lugo in LF. Sogard really seems like a no brainer at this point. If I'm Jamie Westbrook - I might not get too comfortable in Worcester.

Good hands, okay range, mediocre arm that plays up because of good footwork and a quick release. He seems particularly good at going back and chasing those weird angle foul pop-ups.

Fair but some of the accolades mentioned in the link were external (e.g. Baseball America, MiLB.com). They also mention a pop up that he chased down in the OF, as you did.

I mean, do you need to say more than that David Hamilton was the organization's DPOTY last year?

Fwiw, the BA best tools series is, IIRC, based on a survey of managers and is usually VERY unreliable. The other one is that he made a great play that was up for play of the month once. I'm not saying he's awful but neither is a sign he's great. He did stand out as being better than many thought he'd be last year but the jury is probably still out on what that is.

Obvious the Walk Rate and Strikeout percentage look outstanding but i wonder how much of that would translate to the MLB. I remember reading that the ABS had walks up throughout the entire league last year, and with his inability to impact the ball i would surmise Major League pitchers are just going to pound the zone against him and make him beat them. Hoping he turns into right handed brock holt for this team which would actually be pretty valuable considering we seem to churn through bad utility infielders lately.

It’s all true. They also give DPOY awards to guys who fell just short of OPOY and weren’t awful in the field. Someone asked if he was a good defender and I remembered that award. My point is that he’s gotten some dap at both 2B and 3B and he doesn’t obviously flunk the eye test, so he makes sense as a future UT if he continues to progress. The last thing we need is another bat-first UT (an oxymoron, as far as I’m concerned).

You could probably make a case for any one of those guys getting outfield looks... Yorke requested it; maybe Hamilton's path looks like Damian Jackson (**not a comp.. a role comp... 2b/ss/cf pinch runner); heck, a couple years ago, Longenhagen described Valdez as "like a dull Swiss army knife, Valdez plays five positions, but none of them especially well." Do you risk the progress at 2b to try him in a corner OF spot again?

There is a lot to consider here as well as Story is at SS…. Unless he isn’t next year and Mayer is ready
Grissom is probably tending toward LF anyways
I think between the huge roster crunch and some aging relievers and with a decisive GM I’d imagine this deadline this year will be quite active

Eddie Yost and Dave Magadan carved out solid careers…. But yes, those guys are the exception.

Am I wrong that it looks like he was shaded heavily into the hole on that one?

Am I wrong that it looks like he was shaded heavily into the hole on that one? I see the same thing. Did not range far, had time to set his feet and did not, made a weak but accurate throw. Not trying to bust him because he's having an impressive season and he's better defensively than his reputation, but that play isn't a highlight to me.

I think what we need to learn is can he fake it at short if needed. Given that the underlying data so far looks like what I expected (excellent control of the zone and contact rate, meh exit velocities), his value goes up a lot of he can cover more of the infield. His usage so far (moving between 2B/SS/3B) squares with that

Hey, being able to fake it at short is a pretty useful club to have in the bag, as April showed.

Why did not he just set his feet and make the throw properly. He had a ton of time. I’d rather see the good fundamentals there rather the Jeter homage.
