I have absolutely no idea what to make of Connor Wong. Clearly, he isn't this unbelievably good. How good is he? Maybe just kind of unbelievably good?? Good things happen when you cut down on your swing and miss. Now, if he can just add some patience to that.

Chase Anderson is who we thought he was at the start of the season I'm afraid

Well, this is a great example of losing baseball right now.

Understand the pen is pretty taxed but kinda sucks conceding a 2-run game

Pitching getting pounded tonight, that hasn't happened much this year.

Running into the same problem as last couple years: bullpen gassed because team is loaded with 4 and 5 inning starters. It catches up to them quick.

Hamilton just barely missed a hit twice that at bat

They’re getting A LOT more out of their starters than they did last season both in terms of innings and quality, idk what y’all are talking about tbh

Houck and Crawford have consistently gone deep in games, and Pivetta/Bello just got back from the injured list but have but are usually good for innings

Chase Anderson serves a useful role of eating bullpen innings that might otherwise get split among an additional guy or two - but he’s pretty easy to replace. Wonder if he’s there until Mata (who is out of minor league options) is done with his rehab?

Last 2 innings were getting a slight whiff of a Barraclaugh game experience. Glad for that pop up to end it.

Raffy is just a different hitter with men on base. He has mastered the solo home run (like O'Neill) - but our big hitters really seem to tighten up with men on.

Great sports night. Bruins found a way to lose in last 2 minutes to end their season and the Sox score 11 runs over 2 games and their pitching fails them and now they're under .500 where theyll probably wind up this season. Just lovely.

re: “what if the pitching regresses?” takes…
It already is. Over the last 15, Sox rank 14th in MLB at 3.91. I checked during the game, they came into this one 13th at 3.74.
Pitching still isn’t the problem (although bullpen workload has become an issue). Just worth pointing out since, as constituted, this is closer to a .400 team than a .500-.550 team when we’re getting pretty good pitching instead of one of the best pitching staffs in Red Sox history good pitching.

4-10 in the last 14. Tampa, Milwaukee, Baltimore lie ahead. Could be rough going.

They made Bello fly with the team and get in at 4am on the day he had to pitch. Why in god's name would you do that?

Chase Anderson is who we thought he was at the start of the season I'm afraid Chase anderson is giving the sox exactly what he has been showing the league for his entire career, sans way back in '17 and that is nothing. Every player has a decent game or 2 during a season. hamilton today for instance had decent game. but some (Anderson) simply manage to hold roster spots on a team way beyond the time they should have.
