After last night's games, where Portland lost and Hartford won, the Yard Goats hold a half game lead over the Sea Dogs in the race for the first half Eastern League Northeast championship. This week Hartford is facing Harrisburg, who hold a 2-game lead over Erie and Akron vying for the Southwest crown.

Justin Gonzales with his 2nd HR of the year. He's been a beast in the early going as others have noted.

Also, Sogard hitting a sneaky .300 avg/.881 OPS. One has to wonder whether the team will hold onto him after the trade deadline with Hamilton and Romy having firm holds on their spots and Mayer knocking on the door of AAA…

I know hitting over the fence may be sexy, but there has got to be something really special you feel when you run the bases for an inside the park homer.

Boston has six straight games coming up on the schedule, June 21-26. Not going to work with just four SP. Anybody else think it makes sense for Winckowski to work on the 25th?

Ah, thanks! Guess it was just wishful thinking on my part. I hate the load that bullpen games put on the pen, but an isolated one shouldn't be a big deal.
Still hoping to see Winck back soon.

His last two starts have been impressive. Would think if Anderson or Kellar struggle. He could be back.

I think it's time to split him and Valdez. Duran Meidroth Devers ONeill Casas Abreu for now Wong Abreu Yoshida for now Hamilton Rafaela I LOVE IT!

The guy can`t field but I think he`s going to be a pretty good hitter. I see him as the full time DH because of his bat. Emergency 3B and 2B. Not a fan of fulltime DH but I oddly like his bat.

I agree right now but he's young and he's already improved on the field. The kid knows hes will need to get better to see playing time and I think he can do it. A 50/50 split with Meidroth will only fuel him and let us still get that bat in the lineup. Also let's Meidroth get a look and opens up Mayer to get into AAA full time. I'm personally happy with Meidroth Sogard getting a look over Grissom. I'm ok with Hamilton and Rafaela at SS becasue with Abreu back were going to need to move Rafaela back to SS a lot. Also Meidroth can play SS if needed. Having 2 RHH that can play middle infield with this LHH heavy lineup would make us more dangerous. He can also spell Devers at 3rd. We need to sprinkle Devers at DH to keep him healthy. I would love if we gave Tyler a look at 1st. I know its risky but it could really pay off when Casas comes back and I think he could handle it knowing he's a Free Agent and it will give him more Value. That's a reach but just something I've been thinking. He gives me Steve Pearce vibes and he's the same exact build. 5 foot 11 200 lbs. RHH.

For Meidroth or Sogard, are we talking next injury ? I assume Dalbec goes down when Abreau returns.
I'm hoping for a Jansen/Yoshida trade package at the deadline, Probably won't get much back but it clears up some congestion.
ADD: With this group of players, I prefer Meidroth to Valdez. RHH with discipline & good defensive versatility. He's a better fit.

He's 0 for 20 against LHP, and his past track record isn't much better. I'm not sure a platoon DH is an effective use of a 26 man spot. I cut the chord on my cable a month ago and listen to every game on the radio with the 1-2 times a week burger beer bar game but I thought his defense looked a little better earlier this season. You can justify a platoon hitter on your roster if he can play a few positions.
