Yes, I liked that as well. The only part I may have disagreed with is whose job it is to educate the players - I'd put that just as much on the union and agents as the team

Good time to remember that there were people here who thought Brackman and Banuelos were top prospects with plus stuff while come on that never even made any sense.
I love me some Yankee prospect hype.

I love me some Yankee prospect hype. Ehhhhh, I dunno about Brackman. Folks here were pretty consistently skeptical. Am I remembering right that there was video of the Red Sox war room from that draft of the room breaking into laughter when the Yankees drafted him?

I do remember that Keith Law liked him more that David Price....He thought Brackman had more "upside"....But as the year progress even Law had back tracked though he liked the gamble from the Yankees.

Jim Callis is moving from Baseball America to MLB.com, effective as of September 1. Big loss for BA.

A big gain for MLB. Hopefully, he's taking over the draft and prospect stuff from Mayo (would make sense).

Wonder who's going to pick up the Red Sox at BA. Callis had the Sox every year in the Handbook.
That said, having one more legit outlet (let's face it, MLB.com's rankings have never been useful) is always a good thing.

I think the sox will be picked up by JJ Cooper or John Manuel.
I'll still have BA, they still have good info there.
It's also good that MLB.COM'S value won't be all video related.

Hopefully this bumps Harold Reynolds from the draft broadcast.

Hopefully this bumps Harold Reynolds from the draft broadcast. Agreed. The execs at MLB Network should realize that the only people watching beyond the first round of the MLB draft are hardcore baseball nerds, which means the draft show should have fewer blowhards like Reynolds and more analysis from guys like Callis.

Doubt it. MLB is trying to make the Draft something that more than the hardcore nerds watch, and Reynolds is at least a familiar face. The hardcore baseball nerds are going to watch regardless of whether Reynolds is on there or not.

If MLB wants to get people interested in the draft, they need to get them interested in the minor leagues first. Having Callis can't hurt.

Yeah, I'm in agreement. I'm just saying where I think they're trying to go with this.

I think the sox will be picked up by JJ Cooper or John Manuel. So Alex Speier is actually taking over.

Can't argue with it, and good for him - it's deserved, but it's almost a little disappointing in that we get to read him every day. It's nice to get a different perspective there.
