We are now only four games behind the MFYs in the AILC (all-important loss column)! Four!
Have we ever made up a four-game deficit against them? I think we have!

Painful win, but sweep accomplished! Now time to sweep the worst AL team over the last 10 games, the MFY!! EDIT: actually the worst team over the last 10 in the *entire* league! Hahaha!! Just listened to Susan Waldman say Yanks are 4-11 in last 15 games. It sounded like there was a tear in her eye.

Believe it or not, the visitor is a lot closer to even chance since the ghost runner than before. Spaeda on twitter put out a lot of data on that. a) Not a ghost runner.
b) I wonder if it's more to the advantage of the pitchers to know whether they have to hold the zombie runner. I.e., the home pitchers have to worry about the zombie runner regardless; the away pitchers only have to worry about him if he matters. I dunno if that is really much different than it was before though.

Andriese was clutch there helping us out! He had two wins for the Red Sox in 2021 - was trying to add to that total If Mariners lose to Orioles today (they are currently down early) the Astros will be 1 game back in the West

Only FOUR back in the loss column to MFY -- let's go shorten that up some more, yeah? Btw, the Sox have also moved ahead of Seattle, which becomes significant if the Astros continue their playoff push. Like the joke about encountering a lion (you don't have to outrun the lion, just the guy next to you), we need not worry so much about the powerful Astros, just the free-falling Mariners.

I vote the Sox help the MFY go into the all-star break on a 12 game skid. The Yankees are 5-13 since the last series, including the 3 they played against each other. The Sox really did break them. That post registered HIGH on the Jinx Meter.

Yeah, but the visiting team never gets a 2nd chance if the home team goes ahead...We were one vey very close call away from that today !! Great, exciting win though !!

In defense of the third wild card I think there’s a pretty good chance the Red Sox, Yankees and Orioles are three of the four best teams in the AL (Guardians are legit)

We would have lost this game the last few years
Good teams have rough games - if they win them it becomes a great game

We next play the team ahead of us in the WC race on Aug 20.

We next play the team ahead of us in the WC race on Aug 20. Still technically a tie w/ the Royals right now (haven’t played yet today), and they come to town next weekend which is probably the most important series of the year.

Another most important series. Actually a series of series. If the Sox can win the remaining pre-AllStar series (not a crazy thought) we are legit talking about a 90+ win projection and the post season. Not bad for July. And with reinforcements on the way.

Unlikely royals are a player for WC. There exciting and olay good defence but dont have the talent. One could say this series vs MFY is the most important. Only 4 in the loss column.

Watching Duran field that lazy fly to center. Truly EVERYTHING has evolved in his game, except his arm. Is there precedent for a guy developing a cannon? He's defied all my expectations so far. Is this possible? I think no. Someone give me hope? He's working on it...

FanGraphs has Sox as 42% to make playoffs - on the upswing.

The fangraphs odds thing is overrated. If the Sox play well theyll make the playoffs. If they dont they wont. Their performance directs the odds, not the other way around. Thats why I don't take it seriously at all. Just win. Screw the odds.

Royals lose to the Rays, 10 to 8, and Sox are now half a game up on them for WC 3. They were behind 9 to 4 in the bottom of the sixth, but in the end fell short.
