Arias singled and stole second base in his first plate appearance. He’s leading the system in OPS and is one SB off the system lead behind Bleis. That’s a special combination of impact with the bat and impact on the basepaths.
Edit: He’s now tied for the system lead. Stole another base today.

Times like these I lament that BA stopped ranking leagues (and quoting other managers' hyperbole). I want a top 5 GCL (still not ready to call it the FCL) with quotes talking him up - "Omar Vizquel hands and approach".

Arias singled and stole second base in his first plate appearance. He’s leading the system in OPS and is one SB off the system lead behind Bleis. That’s a special combination of impact with the bat and impact on the basepaths. Edit: He’s now tied for the system lead. Stole another base today. I wonder if the scouting report on Soxprospects is out of date or it's just a case of Arias being a very advanced base runner for the level. This guy stole 51 bases in 57 attempts one year but never came close to it again. I've lurked this site for a long time and I'm pretty sure the powers that be on this site dismissed his 51 stolen bases because his baserunning was too advanced for Lowell and Greenville (which was A ball at the time, not A+). Does anyone know if Arias is faster than initially reported or had an uptick in speed? How much can one improve their speed? I can see someone improving speed from like a C to a C+, but not from C to a B. I could be wrong. I'm guessing the scouting report was wrong (16 year old Dominican) or it's the Cecchini effect. |

I’d imagine he’s an average runner with a lot of feel for the game, that’s all you really need to take bases in low A. I doubt he’d take 30 at the big league level but you can take 20 without being the fastest runner if you know what you’re doing |

Starlyn Nunez was 1/3 with a bb/k. He missed a bunch of time in May and got off to a slow start, but he's been mashing since. He's also been snakebitten with bad BAbip luck.
Prior to July, he was slashing .180/.288/.320 with a .216 BABip over 59 PA. 7bb/13k.
Coming into the game, he was slashing .275/.356/.549, .286 BAbip in July over 59 PA. 6bb/8k.
For the year, he sits at .231/.328/.433 with a .253 BAbip (20/79). 17.8% K%, 11.0% BB%.
That 2023 class has a chance to be special.

Keep in mind that the FCL this year is basically the DSL graduate school. Even comparing to last year isn't apples to apples. Most of it is probably technique. I heard from a scout recently who said De Los Santos has 80 speed, and here he is just 26 for 34. |
