Has there been any news in regards to Marcelo Mayer? He went on the 7 day IL on the 1st and originally the hope was it'd be a minimum stay.

It's looking more and more like Mayer isn't headed to Worcester before the end of the minor league season, and the same may be true for Anthony and Teal. Could it be because the best chance for the big 3 to taste playoff baseball would be in Portland, and the organization wants them to experience it as part of their development?

I don't know that this is the case, it still feels more likely than not that at least one if not all three of them make it to Worcester before the end of the season. There's still a month and a half left of the Worcester season.

Story/Grissom rehab could be impacting the Mayer promotion timeline and we've got 3.5 catchers in AAA right now which feels unnecessary but could also be impacting Teel. Roman has a pretty clear path but is 20 in AA and his numbers are good but not forcing the issue good. I could see it going either way at this point. Also wonder to what extent the run environments or automatic zone play into it with whatever they want each of the big 3 working on.

Could be the case, I would think chances are they all either start at AAA or get there very early into next year so does sending them to AAA for a month this or less this season really change their trajectory in any meaningful way? I would say no it doesn't.

I think one other possibility is the Redsox prefer the staff, trainers, managers, and facility/location of Portland over Worcester. I'd guess AA is more focused on development than AAA, but that's just a guess due to roster breakdown. AAA has a lot of journeyman.

Lugo and Yorke didn't exactly slow down at AAA after their promotions, there may be something to that.

Nugget from the Sea Dogs radio booth (only all-female booth in baseball?): Roman Anthony golfs right-handed because it's more challenging. Likes to put himself in baseball-like situations in which he's likely to fail at first.

Ahbram Liendo's first AA hit is a two-out, two-strike, bases loaded, game-tying single to CF.
I like the cut of his jib.

It's kind of wild that Ravelo and Liendo moved up to Portland apparently in part because Portland needed the bodies after Paulino was traded and Mayer hit the IL, and now Montero is playing third in Greenville because the Coffey trade and Romero injury left THEM paper thin.
Relatedly, I presume Fraymi goes back up there to take Romero's roster spot, as he'll be going on the concussion IL.

Rob Bradford had Marcelo in his podcast today. Marcelo said he hopes to play tomorrow. Not up to him he said. Also, said it’s more of a glut. I love Bradfo’s sense of humor. But, it was an awful interview. Cringe worthy at times.

Sea Dogs getting it done with timely hitting against some tough Curve pitching and without Mayer, Anthony, or Campbell.
My brother's at the game. I would be livid if I only got to see Teel out of the Big [insert number here]. Nice day in Portland, though.

Big dubs this morning for Portland and DSL Red.
Portland now 23-11 in the second half, up 2.5 on Somerset in the division.
DSL Red sweeps thanks to a walk-off in the 8th with 2 outs. Now 34-13, up 3.5 games in the division.
Greenville is a game back in its division, Salem 2 back after winning 5 in a row. Worcester the only affiliate not really in the hunt.

He was the one who got the scoop on when and how the shoulder injury happened, and what Marcelo was thinking as he played through it. Haven’t heard this one, but maybe there’s something to building trust/a reputation among players in the org

I'm sure there will be some spin, but that is a real negative evaluation on Grissom. They are playing high leverage games and Nick Sogard is getting lots of time at 2B.

A negative evalution of him right this instant because of the residual effects of his injuries/illness/etc. Doesn't change his long term upside once those health issues are resolved. That's about the best one can realistically do. Also realistic - Sox cannot head into winter penciling him as the starting 2B for 2025.

I'm not so sure it's a negative assessment on grissom. My thoughts are he has missed basically the whole season and he needs all the PT he can get. On a fully healthy sox team he's probably not an every day player at this juncture so perhaps some negative assessment involved in it now that I think of it but probably not a big deal.

I think it's setting him up to succeed potentially long term at the cost of the Short term needs. I don't think it really reflects on him, he hasn't been healthy at all since spring really, and even when he was, he was at 50% strength due to losing so much weight. Sogard et all are good enough to allow him this breather rather than forcing him into a position where his likelihood of success is minimal. I'd rather he get healthy, go into a full offseason of conditioning, and come back guns blazing tbh. That doesn't mean anything is automatic or given to him, but I don't think we've seen the version of Grissom that made Breslow want to trade for him to begin with yet.
