I think that all our minor league teams and those that are Dominican have improved their records as the season has gone on. I remember that the stateside teams were once 25+ under .500 collectively. They are now 8 over .500. The Dominican RSB was once considerably under water and is now 23-22. I would expect that this cumulative improvement is at least in part to good instruction.
Worcester 49-56 Portland 59-44 Greenville 49-56 Salem 56-49
Dominican RSR 36-13 RSB 23-22

Gasper playing 2nd today, 2/3 with a HR, OPS up to 1.184. Great under the radar story of this season.

Indy ball find, came out 1st few pitches tonight at 98mph, before finishing his inning 94-5 and looked pretty ok. I'll take a free find lefty, throws that hard with decent control anytime.

Batting practice at Portland. Which ball went the furthest? Binellas to RF, or that crush job by Campbell to left?

Always fun to watch a team put up 10 in an inning. 3 hrs in the inning and none of them cheap. Hopefully they repeat the performance tomorrow afternoon.

If you were a Campbell skeptic and wanted to say, "Actually, he hasn't been that great; he's only hit [batting line] since [date]," the worst cherry-picking you can do is to say he's hit only .317/.408/.433 with a 142 wRC+ since July 19th. That was before today.

Altoona took a no hitter into the inning, and not sure Portland logged a hit after the inning. But that poor pitcher took one for Altoona. After last night they may have been short on arms. A position player pitched the 8th by the way.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows!! ** two of those days he didn’t play

Gasper 4/7 with a HR in the double header (2B then DH). He's up to .401/1.179.

I mean, if the September call up is a third catcher, there's a non-zero chance they DFA Heineman and call up Gasper if they like him behind the plate. Huge if though.

Yes, definitely a non zero chance but with only 1 of those 2 additions to be a non pitcher unless I'm wrong about them being allowed 14 pitchers in September to be on the roster. I'd guess whoever gets bumped off the roster when Hendriks is activated would be one pitcher returning. I'd guess that Story returns and takes an additional spot and Sogard remains unless they decide to give Grissom another chance but I'd think with less playing time up for grabs upon Story's return and that Sogard hasn't looked overmatched and offers more defensive flexibility, they keep things as is. If health allows this is what I think the 28 man roster looks like in September: Starters: Houck Crawford Pivetta Bello Paxton Relievers: K. Jansen Hendriks Martin Garcia Simms Kelly Criswell Bernardino Booser Catchers Wong D. Jansen Infielders Casas Story Rafaela (he'll play some CF, too. 2b?) Devers Hamilton Gonzalez Sogard Outfielders O'Neill Duran Abreu Refsnyder Yoshida It is possible its Gasper or even Grissom instead of Sogard, but I would think it would be Grissom only if he was playing regularly and I dont think he'll be the guy they want to throw into the heat of the wild card race in September. I'd guess if one of those pitchers goes down then Winckowski would be next in line.

I think a third catcher is more useful than keeping Sogard up if Story returns, assuming he can handle a normal workload.
Like what's the use case for a Hamilton/Sogard/Jansen/Refsnyder/Romy bench? A third catcher is useful if they want to use Wong at positions other than catcher.
That said, turning the argument back on me, if you've got Story and Casas back, why are you using Wong at positions other than catcher?
As you kind of alluded to, a lot depends on the guys coming off the IL.
