Red Sox break it open in the 5th, up 4-0. Justin Gonzales is 3-3 and 11-25 in the playoffs

Typical DSL game - the Sox only gave up 2 hits yet 2 batters for the Angels batted 5 times today.
Gonzalez finishes 4/5 today, capping off a stellar month for him.

The guy will go on absolute rolls, has all year and then lose it for 2-3 games and get hit hard. Was same way last year with Ryan fernandez, who was sure Boston would protect in Rule5 draft, didn't and is now putting up pretty much exact Justin Slaten #'s for St Louis. Will boston protect Guerrero? I'd like to think so, but this team last cpl years never seems to amaze me roster decisions wise.

Respectfully, what are the Rule 5 misses outside of Fernandez the last couple of years???

Fernandez has been real bad lately and they're giving him a lot of rest between outings. He has a worse xFIP than Greg Weissert now. Might be some more arm trouble there.

Since July 10: 16 G, 15.1-13-13-12-13-13. .236/.377/.436 against. Average of 2.3 days rest between appearances. Unless a guy looks like a real future late-inning weapon, I'm never really going to lose too much sleep over losing a true RP in Rule 5.

And that was 12 years ago.

Ryan Pressly didn't even start closing games until his third year with his second team after being selected by MIN in the 2012 Rule 5 draft. The Twins traded him to HOU at the 2018 deadline and while he was pretty good with MIN, he was suddenly lights-out with HOU. I can't put my finger on how he transformed so quickly in HOU but if I could I bet my finger would get really sticky...
Edit: As an aside, Pressly just triggered a vesting option for $14m next season, which will bring his career total earnings to over $76m, surpassing Shane Victorino for what I believe is the most for a Rule 5 pick. The system works!

Respectfully, what are the Rule 5 misses outside of Fernandez the last couple of years??? Agreed, there have been very few misses. Drohan - returned, Thaddeus Ward - not loosing any sleep over. All of the Rule 5s just traded: Zeferjaun, Lugo, Paulino, Kavadas, plus Vargas, Portes, I will not miss. Although I am curious how Lugo would have hit in Fenway…..he is replaceable. As far as Yorke, you have to give quality to get quality, and Priester look like an MLB starter once he incorporates the Breslow/Bailey tweeks.

Thad Ward has 84 walks in 104 AAA innings this year. Still on the Nats 40
