Potentially another addition to the "Do PFF Grades even make sense" file.
Was looking at Josh Uche's snaps/grades for so far and I'm struggling to understand
Snaps counts for the season:
36 Total (2 Run Defense, 28 Pass rush, 6 in Coverage) - So clearly his snaps are weighted significantly towards Pass Rush (makes sense)
Overall Grade 42.0 (60.0 Run D, 72.4 Tackling, 71.8 Pass rush, 28.0 in Cov) Given the above, wouldn't one assume that his overall grade would lean towards his non-Cov grades (Tackling factors in all, I'd think) since he spends most of his snaps in that role? So why does his overall grade pulled down so much by his Cov grade? Does the PFF formula weight Coverage much more significantly?

Meanwhile, Carolina is already benching Bryce Young in favor of Andy Dalton.

I think it was designed for him to roll like that initially. Lowe just got smoked I watched it again, that's not Lowe, that's Hunter Henry. If that roll is by design it's a crazy stupid play. Your expect a TE to block the DE as you move into that area and then go catch the pass? More like Henry job was to slow him down, then go catch pass. He did a great job at that, if Brissett doesn't go right. Actually looks like what I believe is the RG is supposed to cut across and is slow getting over there (which makes sense if it’s Robinson). I think Brissett was supposed to roll right on that play, I think that’s just possibly a bad play design. Although it did end up working for a pretty big play so I guess it can’t be all bad?

It's the stupidest play ever, Lowe and Jordan are double teaming one guy and you want an OG to be quick enough to outrun a pass rusher from opposite side of the line?
Call that exhibit #1 why it's not just on OL, but the coaches. Just have Lowe guard him and Henry chip block him.
How many times have people seen that before? You get tons of pulling on run plays, not pass plays.

NFL.com rated him a 3rd round pick.

Well that sucks, but we have a ton of LBers.
Watching Judon on another team sucks, imagine Judon, Barmore and White. Brissett might win a ton of games not throwing over ten yards lol.

That's in his scouting report, at 175 pounds might have to move inside to slot CB as he could struggle with bigger more physical WRs in NFL. Why would Seahawks draft him? That team has always wanted the most physical CBs.
Not going to lie, James reminds me of Jonathan Jones. I'll always go after guys great in coverage than work on them getting stronger against the run. Jones went from slot only guy to outside guy and this years look at the hits stopping players dead in their tracks.
Type of players I want to see on the practice squad

Conflicting Data or Conclusions: I came across a column on MSN.com that discussed OL play & passing game performance and I thought a couple of points were telling: Now I just read that this week's opponent, Aaron Rodgers, is averaging 2.29 seconds per pass attempt. So would he have no trouble whatsoever behind our OL? Or, a better question: is more being asked of our OL -- either by play design, or by the QB's execution (or, lack thereof) -- than they are capable of right now? Here's a clip made by a Reddit poster of all the Week 2 pressures. In real time, to my untrained eye, many of them look like the QB had sufficient time to operate. Others were clear losses by the OL, usually a tackle getting quickly defeated. Watch & decide for yourself: www.reddit.com/r/Patriots/comments/1fiy5ko/the_patriots_officially_allowed_14_qb_pressures/Maybe, like many things, it's a confluence of events (coaching, talent, execution) that lead to this high pressure rate and thus it might be improved if the team makes headway on two of those fronts (coaching, execution) while waiting for improvement on the talent level next year (draft, free agency, trade)? On a Happier Note: #Separation : guess who's The Man (rookies only)? www.reddit.com/r/Patriots/comments/1fj55tg/rookie_wr_winrates/

www.pff.com/news/nfl-offensive-line-rankings-week-3-2024No shock. Pats rank 32nd. "The Patriots' offensive line accounted for 13 pressures — including two sacks — on 32 pass plays in Week 2. The unit recorded a 76.6 PFF pass-blocking efficiency score, which ranked second to last in the NFL in Week 2. Left tackle Vederian Lowe let up five pressures on his way to a 15.6% pressure rate, which was the second-worst clip among all NFL offensive linemen in Week 2."

But if you'll have a look at my previous post -- the one before yours -- I wonder how accurate this assessment is? A pressure is a pressure is a pressure, whether it comes at 2 seconds or 3 or 4. Using the Aaron Rodgers ball-out measurement of 2.29 seconds behind the NE OL (I know, very inexact, but it's for illustrative purposes only), NE's OL would have allowed FOUR total pressures over two games. Another example: I watched the Chiefs opening week and the rookie LT was getting beat continuously, but not getting hit with pressures because Mahomes was seeing it and getting the ball out pronto andule. If Player A gets 200 hits, he's better than Player B who only got 140 hits, right?
