So this is the part of the year where we post fake rumors fabricated by random dudes on Twitter.

I predicted a blue car was going to drive by my house yesterday and 5 minutes later it happened, therefore I was right!

Considering Kopech throws more pitches in the zone than Clayton Kershaw the batters must be literally standing on top of the plate tonight.

This thread should be renamed "How do you improve the Sox for the foreseeable future?" Mike Trout, Clayton Kershaw, and a time machine to kidnap Dennis Eckersley from 1990. Even this wouldn't stop people from bitching and panicking, btw.

Guys, Pomeranz was just pitching to the score. Smart veteran move.

So Beane needs surplus value of about $30M. That would be a pitcher ranked around #37. Kopech is #89 BA/#43 KL. But separately I have guaranteed Kopech is untouchable. Right but that was literally based on nothing so I think we can ignore it for the purposes of this exercise.

They were both left handed but the first one was oppo.

What exactly is your point? How about you just tell us how good you think Pomeranz is going forward instead of continually obsessing over labels and dancing around the point?

That was not the argument, sorry. This "A's wanted Espinoza too!" thing has been used here and all over Twitter by people to imply that it would have cost us just as much to rent Hill as it did to get Pomeranz. Whether they're being foolish or just disingenuous, they're wrong.

According to Cafardo, the A's insisted on Espinosa for Hill. IMO Beane messed up here. He probably asked for Neo & DDom just hung up the phone. I can picture Beane trying to ask for a lesser package on a dial tone. BB could of just asked for a "realistic" package & at least DD would have listened. Are we writing fan fiction now? It's already been reported that Beane countered with a deal not involving Espinoza (and I think it's safe to say not Benny or Moncada either)

Yeah I wasn't doubting Cafardo's report (obviously fed to him by the Red Sox) but rather the implication of it.

According to Cafardo, the A's insisted on Espinosa for Hill. According to me, Hill will be traded (blisters notwithstanding) and it won't be for someone as good as Espinoza.

He's thrown over 100 innings several times. Is he a workhorse? No. But there's also no reason to ignore minor league innings.

Another thing to consider here is that since some of you aren't willing to give up Espinoza in a realistic trade for a starter (I'd also like to live in a world where Espinoza nets you Chris Sale), I guess it's safe to assume you also aren't willing to give up any of the other top guys, like Kopech and up. Do you build a package around which guys? Brian Johnson? Travis Lakins? Trey Ball? That doesn't get you a good starter, that gets you dudes like Kyle Gibson or Jered Weaver. I agree with you, but I'd much rather have given up Kopech. He's the guy among the top 5 you sell high on, IMO, as I think he has reliever written all over him. But there's a reason Espinoza is more highly rated and I doubt the Padres would have taken Kopech and nothing else, otherwise I believe the Red Sox would have done that instead. Basically I'm saying I would rather have seen them give up Kopech plus some lesser but still legit guys, whether it be for Pomeranz or somebody else.
