I thought it was kind of absurd that we are playing the Yankees and he hits a ball that clearly hits the yellow line and they say, "they need to make a call to NEW-YORK to check on that one". This kid is going to have a career but what a way to get robbed. First game against the Yankees he should of had a home run to make him a red sox legend and it was stolen from him. Oh well The yellow line in left CF is in play. A ball needs to hit to its right to be a HR. Everyone seemed to forget that except the umpire in NYC. O'Brien and Remy mentioned it a few innings later. And it seems likely the umpires on the field didn't know it, or forgot it, which is why I am baffled by people who insist that baseball didn't need instant replay.

People really need to give up the idea of Kopech getting called up in September. It's not happening. He's in High-A not many innings pitched in the past year and has never thrown a pitch at AA level. As far as I know, there is literally one person advocating for this and even he doesn't really believe it. So there's no need to issue a general finger-wagging about it.

I'm not sure he's gonna need the AFL considering all the innings he's going to get up in here September and October.

BTW, Noah Syndegaard's walk rate through his age-20 season was literally half that of Noah 2.0ah. I suppose that's just noise.
Has he explained the wild pitches yet? I am dying to hear the justification for that one.

They took a chance on a guy with a terrific K/BB ratio for his career who has pitched in the tough AL East and has been very durable. That is what is known as a sensible gamble. I would have taken that same gamble, too. And I would have taken that gamble as well with Lester. Can't say I'd make that gamble with too many 30 year old pitchers, but with those two I would have. And a guy like Max Scherzer, who I'm guessing you and certainly many others would have labeled as way more "risky" than someone like Price, has been outstanding so far for the Nationals. You can't predict this stuff. That's the point. Your ideas of what make a guy a "sensible gamble" are based on gut feeling and pereception. It's not based on any hard evidence.

I guess fans are just mad when nothing works out. They wanted better pitching and didn't want to sign the best pitcher in free agency or trade for any. But if I were GM, I would have done everything using perfect hindsight. Right, you need hindsight to think that the David Price signing was a bad idea. Nobody said it at the time.

The White Sox aren't doing a 1-for-1 for Sale. And yeah I do not understand at all why so many people are so hot to trade JBJ. If it weren't for the success of Betts and Bogaerts not one person would be advocating for trading Bradley. That's the point, it depends on the trade. I'm certainly not hot to trade him. I've been advocating for him, even through the miserable times. Repeatedly, to people blathering on about what a bust he was and how they should DFA him. The White Sox won't do a 1-for-1? Then for me the trade doesn't happen. Simple as that. Which is why the trade probably won't happen, because the White Sox would ask for too much (Bradley alone might be too much). I simply commented on the reasonableness of the idea, not its viability. Trading position players for pitchers is always a dicey proposition. But, based on resource scarcity (#1 starters vs. 5-WAR OFs), and the Sox's minor league system, that trade addresses a high-end need while potentially having an internal solution. It's a fair trade in a vacuum and it makes some sense from a Red Sox perspective, yes. But Bradley only has one more year of control than Sale, and if he keeps performing at this level, or even close, his arbitration salaries might even surpass Sale's money. That deal would make zero sense for Chicago. They may not be in total rebuild mode, but if they are trading Sale they are going to want several assets who will be under their control for years beyond he is.

He literally can't throw his fastball.
He'll probably give up 2 runs over 7 innings.

It's actually a pretty clever move by Rodriguez and his agents. He's not actually retiring (because retiring would mean forfeiting the rest of his salary). He's really agreeing to be released, and so he'll get the rest of the guaranteed money on his contract, but he's announcing it like he's retiring and doing his team a favor. He gets all that retirement goodwill without losing any money. I don't see the favor part. You really think the Yankees would be facing negative PR for releasing A-Rod to make room for a younger player? If anything they're doing him a favor, as they were going to release him regardless, by putting on this show to make it look amicable instead of having his career end with yet another ugly chapter.

Yeah, I'm not buying that. They're not calling him up to play third unless they're sure he won't embarrass himself.

I wonder what Brentz and Benintendi's projections are vs LHP, respsectively. I find it hard to believe that the difference (if Benny isn't better period) isn't more than made up by AB's superior defense.

I know that was a made up rumor but people really think Benintendi and Kopech plus some filler for Quintana is a bad trade? Quintana is not that much less valuable than Sale. The White Sox would turn down that offer if it was real (which it isn't).

CJ Wittmann @cjwittjr 2h2 hours ago Loved Kopech's FB and how he attacked hitters. High effort delivery, landing. Secondaries and command are a ways off. Electric arm. #redsox Just want to post this again for anyone who missed it last night. An assessment by Kopech of someone who saw him pitch last night and (presumably) resides in the real world.

There aren't many professional pitchers with a true talent walk rate of 6+ per 9. That number will probably regress for Kopech. That doesn't mean he has plus control or command or that his current walk rate is a mirage. He doesn't and it's not. Literally no one on earth aside from you thinks he does.

And I'm looking into it, but tonight's performance may have been, at least by some measures, one of the most dominant six inning appearances in the history of *baseball. *Single A baseball
