Seeing that they have DFA'd O'Sullivan, for this series; Will they bring up a position player for the bench (Hernandez, Swihart) or another Pitcher for the Pen (Light, Ramirez)? 9-man bullpen? I mean, I'm used to reading crazy things in the gameday thread but still... I don't think that it was unreasonable to consider a 9 man bullpen knowing Mondays game had a good chance of being rained out and the possibility of a double header on Wednesday

It's time to promote Justin Haley. Maybe after Kelly & E Rod are done with their rehab.

Will they replace O'Sullivan on the 40 Man Roster or leave the spot open for now? I think Robby Scott, Kyle Martin & Anthony Varvano could all help if needed.

Give him 2 more starts (20th & 25th) & see how he does. If he stinks it up, hopefully E Rod is ready to take his spot on the 30th and Buchholz goes on the DL with some kind of phantom injury.
I think Buchholz needs to throw another 20-25 pitches before he comes out for the 1st inning. He doesn't look warmed up enough to me to start the game.

I was thinking of heading to Manchester this evening to watch the Sea Dogs play the Fisher Cats. Portland's roster doesn't look especially interesting; does anyone have suggestions for prospects I should watch for in particular? Thanks. Not much here right now. Henry Ramos, an Outfielder. Williams Jerez, a Left Hander in the Bullpen is on the 40 man roster.

Glasnow has been unstoppable this year with a marvelous 1.64 ERA over six starts. He leads the International League with 48 strikeouts in only 33 innings of work. The 22-year-old Glasnow doesn't have much left to prove in the minor leagues.
What would it take to pry this 6'7'', 5th round pick, Right Handed Pitcher away from Pittsburgh?

Give him 1 more rehab start then call him up, put him back in the rotation & send down/DFA O'Sullivan. They should be actively exploring trades for O'Sullivan right now. O'Sullivan is a placeholder for Eduardo Rodriguez, who is likely to be called and take O'Sullivan's rotation spot after O'Sullivan's start on Tuesday. I think they leave E Rod on his rehab for at least 1 more start. I think Kelly will be back first.

This is what I think they should do;
Give Kelly 1 more rehab start (Wednesday). Then call both Kelly & E Rod back up for the Starting Rotation. Trade/DFA O,Sullivan, Trade/DFA Layne, move Price to the Pen, send down Hembree, add Sam Travis to the 40 man Roster and call him up. Rotation; Porcello, Wright, Buchholz, Kelly, E Rod. Pen; Kimbrel, Price, Uehara, Smith, Tazawa, Ross & Barnes.
After a few weeks, when Price gets his act together, move him back to the Rotation.
Crazy, I know.

I don't think they need to trade Swihart for Mazara. I can see an Outfield of Benintendi, Bradley & Betts next year with Sam Travis taking over 1B & Hanley becoming the DH. Add Swihart to the bench as the back up Catcher along with Holt, Young & Moncada and the team looks solid for years to come.

I'm interested in watching how he/Tampa does up to this years trade deadline. I thing he is a very interesting trade candidate. If the Rays are out of it but he is pitching well at the deadline I think something built around Owens or Swihart could be interesting.

If he is called up for the White Sox series who should be sent down? Hembree, Ross, Barnes? Can't send Layne down, he's out of options. Go back to a 13 man pen? Send down Rutledge or Hernandez? Is there somebody banged up & could use a 15 day DL stint? Pete Abraham @peteabe 7m7 minutes ago #RedSox optioned INF Marco Hernandez. That opens a spot to activate RHP Carson Smith on Tuesday. Back to a 3 man bench. They should have sent down Rutledge & kept the Left Handed Bat of Hernandez. Plus I'd rather have Hernandez play SS, 2B OR 3B if needed, rather then have Holt come in & Young go into the OF.

Tampa has 3 team options on him;
2017 28yrs old, $7M Team Option, $2.5M Buyout. If Moore pitches 600 innings from 2014-16, his 2017 salary would increase by $500,000 2018 29yrs old, $9M Team Option, $1M Buyout. 2018 salary would go up by $250,000 each for 85 starts or 570 innings from 2015-17, 90 starts or 600 innings and 95 starts or 630 innings. 2019 30yrs old, $10M Team Option, $750k Buyout. 2019 salary would increase by $500,000 each for 98 starts or 600 innings from 2016-18 and 66 starts or 400 innings from 2017-18
Earliest Arb Eligible: 2017, Earliest Free Agent: 2018
Is this to expensive for them? Could the Sox make a deal with a Division opponent?

I'd like to keep Swihart, he's to good a hitter. He hit 274 with an obp of 319 in 288 abs for Boston last year. Only 24yrs old, he's worth a lot.

They should be starting him in Left & Right at Pawtucket for the next 15 games. I don't think Bradley will ever hit good enough to be a regular for this team. Give Bradley another 45 ABs & if he doesn't improve move Betts back to CF & bring up Travis & start him in LF with Holt in RF. Keep Bradley & Young on the bench along with Swihart & Rutledge. Trade Hannigan.

I voted yes. I don't think he should have been brought back to begin with. The time to move on from him was during the off season. The bigger question for me is did Dombrowski make the right moves during the off season to put this team in it's best possible position to contend? I like the addition of Price & Kimbrel, but I absolutely hate that he kept Farrell & the trade of Miley for Smith, which I think seriously hurt the teams pitching depth.

Anthony Varvaro could deserve another shot. Pablo to the 60 day dl? Wouldn't hurt my feelings. But yea, probably Hembree. I don't think their scared to use him for multiple innings.

Workman is eligible for (and will be placed on) the 60-day DL. However, the 40-man roster is not the reason that Murphy doesn't have a roster spot, it's the 25-man roster. For him to make the 25-man roster, Murphy either has to displace Castillo (which is possible, but, as jimed mentions above, is a lateral move at best and probably a downgrade once you take defense into account) or the Red Sox have to go with a six-man bullpen (which isn't happening). I disagree. The 40 man roster is full. There is no way to add him and then get him to the 25 man roster. That's why I asked if there are any rules preventing the Sox from moving Workman to the 60 day dl. I don't think adding Murphy over Castillo is a "lateral move at best and probably a downgrade once you take defense into account". I think it makes the team stronger and deeper.

I'm surprised Farrell made that announcement. I'm not surprised Shaw is the better option at 3B but, I am surprised Farrell is making the move.

Is Workman eligible to be moved to the 60 Day DL? Or are there rules preventing him being moved there?
If it's possible, I would like to see him put on the 60 Day DL and Murphy added to the 40 Man Roster. Then Castillo sent down & Murphy added to the Active Roster. Then I'd like to see Murphy & Young named as the platoon splits in Left Field & Holt returned back to the Super Utility Role.
I think it makes the team stronger.

Alex Speier @alexspeier 13m13 minutes ago Murphy said he has a 3/27 opt-out but notes that he didn't sign with the Red Sox with the intention of changing teams. I see Workman is on the 40 man roster. Will he be starting the season on the 60 day DL? And would that give Murphy an opportunity to make the team out of spring training?
