Think I’m going to be closing off applications to the Christian Arroyo Fan Club shortly. Hop in now or forever hold your peace! He's looked good early and glad was wrong on thinking Ryu would be rolling up a K fest.

RED SOX LINEUP: 1. CF Kiké Hernández 2. 2B Christian Arroyo 3. LF J.D. Martinez 4. SS Xander Bogaerts 5. C Christian Vázquez 6. 3B Marwin Gonzalez 7. RF Hunter Renfroe 8. 1B Bobby Dalbec 9. DH Kevin Plawecki Personally, I'd rather have Devers batting and JD DHing, but I guess he needs a day off I look at it as maybe bad having most of the free swingers in the lineup with Ryu's nasty splitter, RH hitter's or not. Dalbec, Franchy and Renfroe? That's asking for it. JD might not bite on as many of those. Another issue with the short bench and a club full of guys who swing 1st and think of looking for that good pitch 2nd. Kiké is in that club also. Dito Marwin.

It's happened four times in the NHL. It's sweet though that only the Sox did it in MLB and even better that it was the Yankees. Thanks for that info...I do not follow hockey at all. Ditto. Was a time in the deep south (before cable) when NO hockey games were broadcast on network television. Tampa area, you never heard anything about it until the Lightning came along. Gave it a try and had season tickets the year they played in the dumpster dome, but after not being raised with it and it having snowed this far south (slight) once in my lifetime.. That fad quickly passed.

He's had some good plays: the one that almost seemed to hit the wall, where he was up about 7-8 inches higher than Yaz or Beni could reach, and several times he has fielded balls off the wall very smoothly, and he's got two assists in two weeks. The D stuff is just weird to me. Renfroe has been great defensively but has a lower dWAR. It is just odd. For whatever it is worth, Renfroe does much better than Franchy on baseball savant in outs above average. I’ve always been suspicious of dWAR. Rule of thumb (to me). The more advanced a metric is? The more suspicious it is in actuality.

Can deal with it also, but seriously doubt Duran.. Or anyone else is playing in the OF rotation as a new addition for awhile. GM's, all are slow admitting mistakes and with millions involved? I'd say 1-2 months minimum before either is relegated to the bench, or anything else.
Onto the mistakes mentioned above.. All GM's make them, but none will be quick to cut bait. Not saying Bloom has made overall poor decisions at all..
One more thing which could come into play and something I don't care for.. Remember when Francona had his "boy's"? Like favorites that always seemed to hang around past usefulness? Billy Hall an entire season always comes to mind for me with him as 1 of his "club" members.. We heard so much about Marwin and Cora before the season and ST.. It's scary.. Not saying don't be good friends with players, but please not affect playing time and hanging with the club. gonzalez for instance probably doesn't need to be in there a whole lot right now as sick at the plate as he is, unless he's in the OF rotating with the also sick Hunter.. Which brings to mind Chavis can play a fair LF...

The starters are falling apart. You literally have a group that cannot average 5ip a game bcs of fear of them getting shelled. Good luck putting the piano on the RP's back. Overusing the pen never works in a full season. That's not how the game works anymore. American League starting pitchers were averaging 4.99 IP/game entering today. Red Sox starters entered today a shade below that at 4.93 IP/game. They have 9 relievers including two long guys and have given two of the 16 starts (as well as one relief appearance before optioning him) to their 6th starter. Overworking the bullpen is pretty far down my list of concerns for this team at the moment. My2c is relief situation was pegged as a probable trouble area before ST began. not that top 3-5 were an issue, but from there on and the people on hand as reinforcements at AAA were nearly all lacking in upside. This is possibly why 9 relievers are being kept on hand with such a short bench currently. Whenever Brasier gets back, it should give the team another solid guy to go to and allow them to keep a useful bat on the bench who can also play multiple positions.. Chavis perhaps?

It's not like anyone predicted this team to be 10-6 at this point, nor continue at this pace even. Too many players playing above heads and too many others just not that good to begin with combination of not playing good, or never will and can only hope leash is short on several.

Are we in agreement that Barnes' ERA will not be 0.00 this year (or any year)? So what better time to take the foot off the gas? As long as he doesn't attempt the old Craig Kimbrel impersonation in non save situations is fine with me. Today, it kind of looked like it for a bit.

Let me ask something to the guys understanding some of the kind of obscure rules.. Mata is now unfortunately down now all season and a lot of 2022. my question is options.. He's been optioned already this year. Would this surgery, in the eventuality he takes some time to fully come back possibly lead to him getting 4 options eventually.. Like Brandon Workman did? Does that make sense?
Don't get me wrong, was hoping Mata would make his appearance by the AS break this season, but of course it's not happening. Looking towards future possibilities is all.

If things broke perfect I guess it would have involved putting a winner on the field, but it's still very early of course and you left 1 important thing out Chris.. Not going over the luxury tax threshold for needless additions quite yet, or a season-2 early before his team is ready to seriously compete.

Sawamura's demeanor is that of a closer, especially in light of his Japanese baseball culture background. The long anticipated arrival of Buxton seems to have finally arrived. I'd go there also Phil. Sawamura looks fearless on the mound. Kind of surprised he was "burned" early in the game today instead of being used later. he does have Sox closer written all over him is my 2c should/when Barnes walk away.

Barnes has slowly earned my confidence. He wasn’t even at his best today, and he still overwhelmed them. He looked pretty good here. Up to 97mph, hung 1 pitch that didn't hurt him. Think he's looking ahead to being a FA next year?

Doubt it gets played, tomorrow either. How many other games in Twin Cities get cancelled this year and around the country? Not looking to incur the wrath of Norm or anyone else again with regards to what is going on in that city. Maybe the Twins should play the rest of their games (home) at Hammond stadium, Ft Myers? no interruptions will happen there, except for rain. If there are going to be mass cancellations around the country, as your crystal ball shows, how do you know there won't be any in Fort Meyers? Come on, man. No offense and once again.. No wish to sidetrack any thread. I've got to ask however if have ever spent any significant amount of time in Florida, Texas.. Those kind of states? Your question would be moot if had and not made. It's just not going to happen, outside of "possibly" locally isolated 1-2 cities and then, would not last long before having an end put to. I agree with Chris on getting Houck another start soon. Rodriquez maybe the 1st 2-3 months coming back shouldn't be on a 5 man schedule more than once thru the rotation, then given an extra day, or just skipped. Am also curious if Bazardo is tops on the list of AAA relievers since he has options and Gonsalves and Mccarthy do not??

I never got that. It was like they assumed they’d never make the world series. As I remember April baseball in Minnesota was even colder than October. They used to have some really decent pitchers in the day who pitched outside before the dome (way before) who were 'touchy/feely" guys, known for off speed stuff and not big FB's, like Mudcat grant, Jim perry, Jim Kaat. Even Tiant pitched well there in the 60's for several seasons. Am probably missing someone, but those guys came to me right away. Is cold weather that big of a deal to all pitchers?

It's going to be colder with possible snow... How they have a brand new building and no roof has never made any sense. Easy.. The last well known feature of the dumpster.. er, domed stadium in Minnesota was that garbage bag hanging in RF because HR's were flying like mad initially out of the park and they had to do something to slow them down. A quirk of the design? Some kind of AC/cooling issue wasn't it they finally settled on as the (probable) cause. Anyway.. Outside of the thunderdome/tropicana.. whatever they are calling that abomination in ST Pete now, probably never a worse stadium the last 50y, or since the Expos left Jerry Park.

It’s Minneapolis. They kinda let people riot there for days at a time if they want. Tomorrow won’t be any better and could be worse if the protesters/rioters get a little momentum. They already have it.. Were not shut down immediately 1st time several months ago, nor yesterday. given a license to act stupid and get away scot free. Now, if finally decide to get tough (which should have right away), media will have a blow up about how poor, innocent protesters are being mistreated. It's ridiculous. Simple motto.. Act stupid and get treated accordingly.

I don't see Bloom extending any before the season is over myself. He see's at least as much as we do, if not more numbers and details. Look at these guys from a stand off point, rather than they are people the team developed and you may want to keep "just because".
Devers is a DH/1b playing 3rd, who hurts the team playing his current position many times with the glove. Do you think any extension amount is going to be based on what Bloom values him as a DH/1b, or a 3b? I'm thinking the former, which will leave Devers year to year.
Rodriquez, having pitched 1 game in nearly a year and a half will have to show Bloom he is able to go out and both pitch effectively and stay healthy. IF he does both of those by perhaps the AS break? i could see Bloom offering the Eovaldi type deal mentioned above.
Barnes is the one we know (according to him) remained engaged in extension negotiations the longest during ST. Shame something couldn't get worked out. Have a feeling he'll be solid once again and someone will overpay for him, like 3/27-30m.
Vazquez is one I'd like to see gone ahead and extended. Offer him another 2/25m on top of what he has coming.

Well I guess the other question is what would've changed from Tuesday after the game until today to change the Eddie decision, right? Do we know when he threw last? If it was Monday and he'd been fine for a couple weeks, it seems unlikely something happens yesterday that changes everything. I don't disagree with the point though, to be clear. I think in a normal season (or maybe even just later in this one) they option him after the start and bring up a bullpen arm for 4 days. It was a bit weird - you're right that the 17th versus the 18th isn't much different. It's a shame they couldn't keep him there as a swingman now. I understand the reasons why not, he's potentially to valuable as a really decent starter down the line and no club would want to chance wrecking that having a kid both start and pitch relief.. Like Whitlock probably will and not said with malice. Years ago this would have been how a guy like houck was introduced to the bigs.. Time has changed.

Vazquez has been so impressive. Christian Vazquez is a professional hitter. He made himself that way just as did Bogaerts, who's in the same class. They worked to figure out how to hit to the opposite field first. Bogaerts did that for an entire year! Once that skill was in the toolkit they felt free to use their power stroke and club pitches middle in. It seemed like half the board was in on a Vazquez trade over the winter. Good defensive catchers aren't that common. Good hitting catchers are rare. To have a guy who is both on an ultra-reasonable contract is a gift, one I don't believe the team will be trading anytime soon. As his value on the field and apparently in the clubhouse soars, if anything they should rip the old one up and get him a new one that keeps him around longer. Catchers are in that rare group that age well. Years back, Yadier Molina made the point of asking people to be patient, that Vazquez would hit. He knew something we're all seeing now. Board was ate up with multiple folks wanting him moved for prospects, mostly after it was rumored he was available last year towards the deadline. i stand by same line you don't move one of the very best, all around catchers in the league, who is underpaid unless get back a whole lot more than he is really worth and by that? A supposed front end SP prospect, or star level regular prospect as part of the return. Guys like CVaz, because he's a 30yo catcher seem to be under valued and under appreciated and guys like Dalbec over hyped and too many think is some next Dave kingman.

Remember also the Sullivan getting hit in the rumpus for a W.. Then him pointing to it just in case anybody in the stadium missed it!
Forget which team the balk was against, tho do remember Sox color guy then Monty yelling "A balk? Did he just balk?!?". Nothing by Ned martin, just that and whatever pitcher was out there complaining to one of the umps. Seattle the opponent maybe?

Paxton is hurt again also. Was watching the M's game after the Sox got finished and he never made it out of the 2nd. Seattle's MLB site only place see anything about it, tho it says another "forearm strain". His velo was down in the 2nd and story on the M's site says he's going to have an MRI today.
For those interested.. He chose to rehab the last time over surgery. The guy is so fragile.

It's for 2 days. Two. No need for anyone to have a coronary. More like trips to the head to relieve themselves after looking at such an awful thing. Ugliest ever? Colorful double knits some teams wore from 80's were brutal, this is worse.

Impressive showing for Whitlock so far. Nice to get that strikeout because as he's finding out this inning, generating groundballs with our infield defense seems to not get you outs. Yeah.. Nice if the Sox had gotten Devers to play a little winter ball and only play 1b, or send him to instructional league this past fall and same thing, plus play 1b in ST. he couldn't be as bad there as he is at 3b. Many ppl are closing their eyes with him. When you wince at a ball going to a position on the field, it's time to do something about it. He's not going to get any better there. Should have already been sent to 1b, let their new wonder kid Dalbec play 3b, who from what have seen looks far better there. Stop massaging the ego of Devers, he can't handle the position and if the team is going to carry Arroyo on the roster? He might as well play, because after these 3 games, it's pretty obvious Hernandez isn't any real 2b want out there. Combine those 2 with Bogaerts, who bless him does his best with what he has and the infield is atrocious as is. Chavis (not saying do this) would be a much better improvement with the glove at either 2b/3b, that's how poor it's been all spring and so far this season. Who didn't see this coming that watched all their ST games??
