Quick question....would BOS be at pick 30 or 31 (30 teams + 1 for Toronto compensation)?

What is the tie-breaker for teams with the same record? 4 teams finished at 74-88. Colorado, Milwaukee, NY Mets and Toronto. That would be slots 8-11 so the tie-breaker is important to one of them.
1. Houston 51-111 2. Miami 62-100 despite finishing with a no-no 3. ChiSox 63-99 Awful finish 4. Cubs 66-96 4. Minnesota 66-96 6. Seattle 71-91 7. Philly 73-89 8. Colorado 74-88 8. Milwaukee 74-88 8. NY Mets 74-88 8. Toronto 74-88
I read earlier in the thread Toronto picks 11th. Could have back to back picks depending on tie-breakers. Mets have to be praying they are in the Top 10.

According to CBS Sports this is the 2014 Draft order: 1. Astros (2013 record: 51-111) 2. Marlins (62-100) 3. White Sox (63-99) 4. Cubs (66-96) 5. Twins (66-96) 6. Mariners (71-91) 7. Phillies (73-89) 8. Rockies (74-88) 9. Blue Jays (74-88) 10. Mets (74-88) 11. Blue Jays (for failure to sign 10th overall pick in 2013) 12. Brewers (74-88) 13. Padres (76-86) 14. Giants (76-86) 15. Angels (78-84) 16. Diamondbacks (81-81) 17. Orioles (85-77) 18. Yankees (85-77) 19. Royals (86-76) 20. Nationals (86-76) 21. Reds (90-72) 22. Rays (91-71) 23. Rangers (91-71) 24. Indians (92-70) 25. Dodgers (92-70) 26. Tigers (93-69) 27. Pirates (94-68) 28. Athletics (96-66) 29. Braves (96-66) 30. Red Sox (97-65) Stone Garret, OF, Texas HS 31. Cardinals (97-65) I believe the tie breaker is previous year record.

Per www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/09/2014-mlb-draft-order.html•The draft order is determined in reverse order of record. If two or more teams have the same record, the tie-breaker is 2012 record, with the team with the worse 2012 record getting the higher pick. That's why, for example, the Cubs (61-101 in 2012) pick ahead of the Twins (66-96 in 2012), even though the two teams had the same record this season.

The Cubs have an opportunity to add yet another high quality talent to their already talented prospect pool. Watch out in a few years. Astros appear to be in line to add a high end starter in Rondon to this years Appel for a potential dynamite 1/2 combo. Unless the Red Sox sign a qualifying offered free agent it appears they will have two or three picks bunched closely together

I've put the schedule-adjusted wins and (rank) after each team.
1. Astros (51-111) 51.1 (1) 2. Marlins (62-100) 59.3 (2) 3. White Sox (63-99) 62.8 (3) 4. Cubs (66-96) 66.4 (5) 5. Twins (66-96) 66.1 (4) 6. Mariners (71-91) 71.0 (8) 7. Phillies (73-89) 70.7 (6) 8. Rockies (74-88) 72.5 (9) 9. Blue Jays (74-88) 77.2 (14) 10. Mets (74-88) 70.9 (7) 11. Blue Jays (for failure to sign 10th overall pick in 2013) 12. Brewers (74-88) 74.4 (10) 13. Padres (76-86) 74.8 (12) 14. Giants (76-86) 75.4 (13) 15. Angels (78-84) 78.1 (15) 16. Diamondbacks (81-81) 80.4 (16) 17. Orioles (85-77) 88.1 (20) 18. Yankees (85-77) 87.8 (19) 19. Royals (86-76) 86.6 (18) 20. Nationals (86-76) 83.2 (17) 21. Reds (90-72) 91.2 (23) 22. Rays (91-71) 93.2 (26) 23. Rangers (91-71) 91.0 (21) 24. Indians (92-70) 92.2 (24) 25. Dodgers (92-70) 91.1 (22) 26. Tigers (93-69) 93.3 (27) 27. Pirates (94-68) 95.1 (28) 28. Athletics (96-66) 95.9 (29) 29. Braves (96-66) 93.2 (25) 30. Red Sox (97-65) 99.4 (31) 31. Cardinals (97-65) 97.7 (30)
The club getting the gift is the Blue Jays, with a protected #9 pick instead of #14. As has been noted, that's not unfair as a mechanism to help them compete in the AL East, but in the long run, it perpetuates the imbalance among divisions.

Anyone know how they determine comp picks. Is it still based on performance? If Yanks keep Cano, and 4-5 QO'd free agents sign elsewhere. Our 30th pick ends up being 25-26 right? And, we'd get a pick 2 slots after that if Jacoby is the highest rated free agent??

I am pretty sure the order of compensatory picks is the reverse of record, so we would probably be the last team to be awarded a pick.

I am pretty sure the order of compensatory picks is the reverse of record, so we would probably be the last team to be awarded a pick. For the 2013 Draft, the Compensation order was: Cards, Rays, Rangers, Braves, Yankees, Yankees. Their rankings from worst to best for 2012 were: STL, TB, TEX, ATL, NYY. Edits: I'm a moron, did all that work for the Competitive balance picks first.
