If the season ended right now:
1. HOU ---- 2. CWS -4.0 (has lost 10 in a row to sneak past MIA) 3. MIA -6.5 4. MIL -9.5 5. MIN -12.0 6. CHC -12.5 7. SFO -12.5 8. NYM -13.0 9. TOR -13.5 10. PHI -13.5 11. SDO -14.0 12. COL -14.0 13. SEA -15.0 14. LAA -15.0
(tiebreaker order among teams from 5-14 is as follows: CHC, COL, MIN, TOR, NYM, SEA, SDO, PHI, LAA, SFO)
Fifteen to watch for the 2014 draft:
SP Carlos Rodon, North Carolina State (LHP) SP Tyler Beede, Vanderbilt SP Michael Cedaroth, San Diego State SP Aaron Nola, Louisiana State SP Jeff Hoffman, East Carolina SP Sean Newcomb, Hartford (LHP) SP Brandon Finnegan, Texas Christia (LHP) SP Touki Toussant, HS RP Nick Burdi, Louisville SS Trae Turner, North Carolina State SS Nick Gordon, HS SS/3B Jacob Gatewood, HS C Alex Jackson, HS C/1B Kyle Schwarber, Indiana OF Derek Fisher, Virginia
Note: the Red Sox could be looking at 2-3 picks in the 25-35 range of the 2014 draft, which looks very deep as of now.

I think SF and the Cubbies are two teams to watch. I can see both making a strong run at Jacoby. Hope they pick 11th and 12th.

We would get the same pick regardless, but they would be more willing to sign any of our QO free agents if they give up a 2nd round draft pick.

Note: TOR has the 11th pick in the draft (Bickford), MIA has the 36th pick in the draft (Krook) and a supplemental 3rd round pick (DeLuzio).
Therefore, even if TOR finishes in with a top-ten pick, they could lose the #11 pick if they sign a free agent who received a QO.

Even if we don't receive the 11th or 12th pick, wouldn't the fact that the pick disappears make our compensation pick one slot better? Therefore, since I believe the Mariners will sign Ellsbury, I hope they stay out of the bottom 10.

I don't think that is correct. I could be wrong, but a mlbtraderumors link isn't going to convince me.

Jacob Gatewood. If anyone has a chance to unsit Rondon at the top is him IMO.

A power bat in the outfield and/or at first would be ideal. Preferably a LHH.

Thank god I don't have to worry about losing this year. Hey... That's why you diversify in watching teams on TV.. After too many years of watching baseball and listening to them on AM radio before many games were on? You learn to watch other teams when your favorite reeks, but always keep up with your favorite still.. It's how you keep ur sanity when your favorite team makes bad moves, loses 90+ games etc.. Last year for example? Pawsox were fun to watch as Bobby Valentine was running the circus atmosphere in late August, as were various other MLB teams.. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do to maintain sanity. That is what this ancient Sox fan does at least.

I'm not exactly ancient but I always kept track of the Expos as I almost considered them a Red Sox Farm team as I knew they wouldn't be able to pay players X,Y and Z so they'd be trade bait and we'd be a likely target.

I don't think that is correct. I could be wrong, but a mlbtraderumors link isn't going to convince me. Any pick that is awarded for failing to sign the previous year cannot be forfeited. Just check the wiki. Or the rules.

Are the Yankees going to back up the brinks truck to try and sign Ellsbury? I am not opposed to giving them Ellsbury on an even numbered year. Maybe next preseason we could get to see Ellsbury trying to steal on Vasquez (49% gunned down) ?? I'd pay to see that.

Are the Yankees going to back up the brinks truck to try and sign Ellsbury? If I had to rank the top five suitors for Ellsbury, I would list them in order of likelihood as: Mets Rangers Mariners Phillies Cubs I think the Hankees are much more likely to spend hard for starting pitching.

MIA has taken a four-game lead on CWS for the #2 spot.
#3(CWS)-#14(SEA) difference is six games.
Taking WAS out of the next update.
