I might be mixing things up, but I'm pretty sure that was later on. There were definitely Cliff Lee rumors for a few years, but Amaro kept holding out for insane returns that never came. Yeah the Cliff Lee rumors were tied with Xander earlier on. The Cole Hamels rumors were tied with Mookie when Cole was available. That was easy to mix up.

I wondered who killed AA(or above) at 20(or younger), and I found some all star players as below.
Player OPS age level M. Trout .878 19 AA M. Trout 1.029 20 AAA M.Cabrera 1.038 20 AA A Rod .953 18 A/AA/AAA K.Griffey .972 18 A/AA Wil Myers .827 20 AA Wil Myers .987 21 AA/AAA Wil Myers .867 22 AAA
(Is there any other players who hit better than .900 at 20?)
Devers hit .970 at 20 years old so far, much better than Wil Myers at 20 years old (.827). Devers maybe a very special player.

I think as long as the team is playing well and 3rd is not a complete disaster then devers stays in the minors until at least middle of august.

He put up .863 in AA at 20 (and .863 in AAA before he got hurt).

I don't think we see him this year until the rosters expand (whether he's doing really well or they just want to get him a call-up to experience what he'll be experiencing come next year).

Maybe they'll promote him on July 10th. He needs to go up. The sooner the better if he's going to contribute to the big club in September. I fear that DD will trade for a temporary 3b before the deadline and give up someone like Chavez. That would keep Devers in AAA for the rest of the season. If he's their guy next year, let him spend a month in AAA and see how he handles it. Just letting him sit in AA does no one any good. The more I think about it, the less scared I am for Devers to be traded. If there were another position on the ML roster that was a black hole, then I would be worried. But, he's shown in his time with Detroit that he's not afraid to promote someone early to play in the Majors when there's a hole at their position. Some examples (non-exhaustive research performed before the detail police show up) are our own Rick Porcello and Nick Castellanos.

Pete Abe tweeted Peralta has been released. Are we finally getting our wish of Devers to AAA?

Pete Abe tweeted Peralta has been released. Are we finally getting our wish of Devers to AAA? Was there anyone who thought Peralta had anything left? All the reports I heard were that he could't move well enough to field the position, let alone hit. What a waste of time. Devers could have had Peralta's AB's in AAA. Now the trading deadline is only a couple of weeks away and they are going to have to make a decision as to whether Devers is ready with less data about Devers in AAA than they could have had. What if takes Devers a couple of week at AAA to adjust? Sell a couple of more prospects for a third baseman? I realize that even if Devers had gone up to AAA instead of the Red Sox signing Peralta, it would still not be a very large sample. But why not give your self as much information as you can get? I really do not what them to lose anymore prospects on a thirdbaseman who they will only need for this year and maybe a month or two of next year, but I also want them to do what they need to do have the best chance to win this year. This could end up being their best chance in the next few years with the young talent the Yankees have in New York or coming and the money the Yankees have to go out and supplement that talent.

The fact that they bothered getting Peralta meant that Devers wasn't going to affect their trade deadline plans, or at least how he performed in a couple more weeks of at-bats there, as you sort of allude to.

I feel like the Sox just don't really think the jump from AA to AAA is THAT significant in Devers development, so they figured this was their opportunity to try out Peralta and Sandoval. If they moved him up earlier they wouldn't have been able to do that, and clearly they don't think he's ready to take over in the majors yet. Really hoping that Lin continues to play well, they don't acquire anyone and Devers gets a chance in September.

They can acquire someone like Frazier or Lowrie at the deadline and still call up Devers and keep Lin here for the rest of the year. Depends on the price for Frazier or Lowrie, if the Sox are going to acquire one of those players.

I could definitely see that happening I just don't think the price will be low enough for it to be a deal that I'd make. If we're going to spend those resources I'd rather they be put towards a reliever.

@ryanhannable Sox prospect Rafael Devers has been promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket, per source. evandrellich had it first. And it's official.

Should get 170 or so ab's before 9/1. Holt and Marrero works for me until then. Can get a little waiver deal by 8/31 if it doesn't

Interesting note: Devers is 8 days older than Xander was when he was promoted to AAA in 2013.

Why don't teams give players like Devers a chance to make the jump in July to see if he can tread water before the deadline. If he looks bad, maybe you go get a guy at the deadline. If he looks good, you get that extra two months of playing time. Is it solely related to service time or are they afraid they might have to demote them?

I would guess it's mainly developmental, if they don't believe he's ready to make the leap full time then calling him up only to have him struggle and get sent back down would hurt his development and confidence.

Sure, it is a small sample, but a small sample is better than no sample, if you ask me. It would work if it were like Moncada's appearance last year, but a lot of young guys get figured out after a few weeks even if they hit great to start. Baseball is all about adjustments as we've seen with every prospect who has come up over the last few years.

This could end up being their best chance in the next few years with the young talent the Yankees have in New York or coming and the money the Yankees have to go out and supplement that talent. I don't agree with your entire tone. For example, I don't think the two weeks means a thing. I'm of the belief that as Holt is coming back, we can withstand the 3b issue until Devers is ready. Those two weeks in AA vs AAA isn't as big of a deal imo as you make it seem.
And because I think Devers can be decent enough -- I don't see the fear you mention of trading for 3b unless they get a 3b for tremendous value. IMO The Red Sox team as constructed is good enough to win the division or at worst get a wild card without having to make a significant trade. Once they make the playoffs, with their pitching, they are a major threat.
And while I think your respect for the future of the Yankees is warranted in some manner, imo you seem to be too afraid of them in a another. The Red sox have tremendous pitching going forward for quite some time. The team constructed as it is now are built for the playoffs going forward. Right now imo the Yanks pitching in the future is an enormous question. Maybe their current young pitchers will grow. If they don't -- they are crapshooting with free agents or need to make a blockbuster deal that "hits a home run." Until they get those hits on pitching, I think you tone is offbase. Though I understand your concern.
Anyhow IMO Devers is "ready to play" or will very shortly. As long as we don't panic, we can stay under the cap and preserve some youth for next year and maybe make some small deals next year, because the Sox will be strong again next year even without making big moves. IMo we're sitting "in the catbird seat." Not the Yanks. They NEED pitching or HOPE their young pitchers come through. I'm not sold on their young pitching yet.
