Y'all do realize that not only will Drew need 2-4 weeks seeing live pitching in the minors once he is signed before he can play in MLB, he'll also pop a hammy walking to his car a day before he's activated and need 30 more days on the DL, right?

Big, big win for Boras. Smells like a panic move.

Not bad at all. They weren't going to get a draft pick out of him at this point, and they're in a tight division race, so it makes sense to get in before the rest of the league would. And no multi-year commitment? I like it.

Now all we have to do is trade him for the equivalent of a first round draft pick.

Big, big win for Boras. Smells like a panic move. A win? Maybe a win would have been signing the QO. Goodbye WMB.

Big, big win for Boras. Smells like a panic move. How is this a big win for Boras? He told everyone he would get Drew a multiyear deal worth a lot of money.

Hopefully this means the end of the WMB experiment. I wish it worked. It didn't.
So much promise, so little improvement.

Amazing. He'll help some.....but just some. Xander moves to 3rd. Wonder how he feels about that. Certainly our defense needed to be shored up, and this will, but it won't drive those runners in.
HOPEFULLY the first of several moves. I guess Ben thinks Marrero has what it takes eventually to keep Xander at the hot-corner. We need a bopper in left!

I hope they put Drew at 3B to platoon with WMB instead of moving Bogaerts back and forth.

And you believed him? No one else did. He got Drew what he wanted - $14mm (pro-rated), with another chance for free agency, with the team he wanted to play for. It was a mistake to turn down the QO; now he's been put back into the equivalent situation.

I wonder if this signing is a prequel to a big trade, involving WMB. Maybe, but his trade value is quite low at the moment.

This also means we will not be able to offer Drew a qualifying offer this year, as he was not on our team the whole year.

It was a mistake to turn down the QO; now he's been put back into the equivalent situation. The only advantage he has is that he can't be given another QO. If he signed the last one, he could have.

It was a mistake to turn down the QO; Was it? He cost himself $4 million in the short term, but now he's not eligible for the QO. If he plays well at all he'll get a deal that will more than make up for it. If he'd accepted then played well he'd have been in the exact same situation.

I hope they put Drew at 3B to platoon with WMB instead of moving Bogaerts back and forth. Eh, I hope not. Bogaerts can handle being a serviceable part time SS while working on becoming a quality third baseman. With Drew being a premier defender, I want him at short whenever he's in the lineup. It may not be the best alignment for Bogey's personal player value, but it's best for our team. I'm truly ecstatic right now to have Drew back.

So now that we don't have a backup 2b, Betts to the majors must be happening soon.
I wonder if they'll DFA and release Herrera or jam him onto the way-overcrowded AAA roster.

Given that Drew will need some time (and assuming that you signed Drew to play SS not platoon at 3B), do you move X to 3b now or wait until Drew is ready?

SO we have no 40 man spot or 25 man spot… So more moves are a coming By my count the 40-man is at 39. And the 25-man move is pretty obvious - either Holt or Herrera is optioned. EDIT: And we're not sure yet when Drew will be active.
