I'd expect TJS sometime this season. The rest and rehab rarely works. He'd be a very rare exception.

Yeah, you can't regrow a ligament. The longer he waits before surgery, the more likely it is that misses significant parts of 2015.
In other words, next year's division race is wide open.

When Masahiro Tanaka starts, the Yankees are 6-1 and have a +21 run differential. When he doesn't start, they are 13-18 and have a -39 run differential, worse than every team except Arizona and Houston. To that end, this is just too good to leave alone. MFY-Loving Buster Olney has proclaimed Tanaka a "$ 155M bargain" and marvels at how he crushed the Red Sox and struck out Mike Trout. All this after only 7 starts. I was as high as anyone on Tanaka and thought the Sox should've went hard at him, giving them a very nice Lester free agent insurance policy. But even as good as he's been it's only been 7 starts, he hasn't hit the dog days of August yet and I've not see the medicals on that splitter-throwing elbow. Just a heapin helpin of Yankee hype. What next - "Is Yangervis Solarte the Next YANKEE CAPTAIN!?!" Sheesh. Guidas with an interesting comment about that elbow.

Interesting. Even more of a reason that they'd chase Lester and/or Scherzer. If CC doesn't retire, microfracture could keep him out most of next year, and the same for Tanaka. Given what is already tied up in their payroll now, there's no reason for them to not keep spending to go get replacements. We could see them push the Dodgers for the top payroll slot again.

So lots of room to spend. Heck, $250M is just a number.
