Wow didn't know it would be tha quick but there it is.
Demote one of the better hitters on the team, that'll shake'em up. And put Herrera in there it can't hurt he had a bunt single.

Nava needs his eyes checked. He never looked at strikes down the middle of the plate last year.

Nava Can't Hit Righthanded Yup, even the MASN commentators know that. Victorino figured out that switch hitting is only good if you know how to do it. Time to pass that wisdom on.

Has Badenhop done much of anything well so far this spring? I didn't like that signing from Day one. To me it was only depth.

Wish we had guys of that caliber. I turn down the NESN sound and enjoy the game much better that way. The current broadcast team jumped the shark at least five years ago.

His first home rum was also a bomb, now hitting 300. He improved last year and seems like still is. Yeah, we have great prospects that are a year or so away, and we aren't going anywhere this year anywhoo. Must take a step back sometimes to move forward or some crarp like that

Ryan Roberts DFA'd. Waste of a million dollars. 61K.....and I think he'll clear waivers. He's a nice player to have at at AAA. Andy Parrino also DFA'd today, are the Red Sox interested?

He has an option left, can play a solid shortstop, and can grow an above-average beard so that isn't a bad idea at all.

A flawed but resilient team who just won everything loses a couple of key players and has a slow start for the year. This just has to be the first time it happens.

So, John Lackey. 6 K, 4 BB and 0 HR give him a 3.05 FIP, but failures in replay and fielding smack him with a killer .526 BABIP. So it is plausible to say he just had very bad luck.
On the other hand he had an atypically low 31.6% Groundball rate and it did look like he was allowing some pretty solid contact.
Should we be worried or not?

Broh, they're two games out of the playoffs, too. I need to be held. I don't know if its a great thing or a terrible thing about baseball that no single games means anything. Even a 7 game stretch is pretty meaningless. Win 7 in a row or lose 7 in a row and you only move up or down in the standings 3-4 games.

Not worried about Lackey, at least yet. Anyone else getting concerned about the two right handed relievers that came in tonight? Wasted signings or patience? (The hopman seems to be a fairly decent mop up guy) Wonder if Miller should pitch more than a couple of batters and go a few innings. Wonder if they should bring Workman back soon. Would De La Rosa be a viable option in the pen, assuming his control is improved?

Nice article by Speier, contributing Sox's poor start to faulty defense. Here is an excerpt that is germane to the discussion of X Man's proficiency ( or lack of) at shortstop:
The diminutive ensemble of Holt, Jonathan Herrera and Ryan Roberts has lacked the wingspan of Middlebrooks, thus opening up holes in the infield. The range deficiencies of the Sox at third base, in turn, have become even more impactful given that Xander Bogaerts hasn't been able to match the consistently excellent range demonstrated last year by Stephen Drew and Jose Iglesias. At times when Napoli has been absent from first base, Carp and Nava have represented a significant dropoff from the Sox' Gold Glove-caliber regular at the position.
He goes on to note that this could change with the return of Shane and Will and leaving Jr. in center. I do not know much. Perhaps you better minds can answer the question of how improvement can be expected from a shortstop, other than learning positioning and improving footwork, or is that enough? Seems they have a certain range at the start and this does not improve, other than through the steps just noted. I am wondering just how much X Man will improve.

Given that he is young...I think it is reasonable to think he will improve...if in fact, this is a weakness in his game. If his bat plays out like we think it will...he only has to be a league average defender to be really valuable. No doubt that the best range defenders have a skill that can't necessarily be taught.
