It'd be better than alright IMO. One of the games best pitchers under control through his age 30 season. We'd have an ace for 5 years. Sign me up. And with him being underpaid, if we trade Cespedes for someone like Cueto or Zimmermann, we would be able to extend them without much worry next season (basically I mean we can give out 20M AAV to a FA next offseason).

I'm also very up for this (assuming the rumor is legit). However, I do worry about Sale's elbow tearing apart based on his delivery and losing a few of those years. But anyway, I won't speculate (drool?) further until I find concurrent evidence for this rumor. As for Samardzija, I happily offer Marrero + 1 or two pitching prospects not named Rodriguez/Owens. Assuming the White Sox offer is legit, that would seem to come close to matching. But who knows with Beane.

The "rumor" is coming from some Twitter dude who has been posting a lot of BS. So yeah that sounded too good to be true for a reason.

Chris Sale isn't going anywhere. The White Sox are gearing up to win. They added La Roche to help out the offense a year after they signed Abreu. They're about to land The Shark and they've just sign David Robertson. The White Sox are in win it now mode, and they have an ace to help lead them thru the post-season. They're not trading Chris Sale. This should be obvious and hopefully end the trade for Sale talk.

It's not gonna stop anyone from "speculating" and getting a RT from "news" thirsty Red Sox fan my friend.

And while I agree that there's a 99% chance he's not going anywhere, the Red Sox can make the White Sox a lot deeper and give them a ML-ready SP with lots of control. Swihart + Owens + Webster + Marrero gives them a Semien replacement, Webster could fill a rotation slot if necessary, and Swihart and Owens gives them a projected mid-rotation starter and potential all star catcher for years to come. I think it would make more sense to wait until next year for a trade like this, but who knows? Samardzija grew up a White Sox fan. Maybe he signs an extension. Crazy stuff happens every year.

Let's remember samardzija is a one year rental. If Rubby projects as a bullpen arm, we have several others we can swap out. Ranaudo, Escobar, Webster, etc. So your point is that after they gave up one of the top 10 prospects in that game for Samardzija at the deadline, the A's are going to take garbage for him a few months later? Remember the A's got Hammels and one and half years of Samardzija. Deal was done well before the deadline, they got extra starts. At the time Hammels was having an outstanding year and they could get a comp pick for Samardzija.
You laughed at a trade idea of Coyle and De La Rosa for Samardjiza. A's just traded him for Marcus Semien, Chris Bassitt and a player to be named. Unless that player to be named is a major prospect looks like the A's took garbage a few months later in your words. Rubby De La Rosa is better then Chris Bassitt. Marcus Semien is a lot like Sean Coyle. Good bat's average D. Semien can play short, 2B and 3B, where Coyle plays 2B and 3B. Would love to hear what you have to say about this.

I'll say what literally the entire baseball world is saying - I'm confused as hell by this, and it's clear now that Beane values prospects differently than the media outlets' evaluations do. Will admit to being wrong, certainly, about what I thought he'd get, but I stand by my thought process that led to being wrong and wouldn't retrospectively change my valuation. Semien > Coyle though, fwiw. Not quite sure how Bassitt and RDLR match up - looks like the FB might be kind of similar at least? Interested to see who third player is.

Well, the White Sox are certainly not trading Sale now. Looks like they are going for it this year. Wouldn't be completely shocked if they take the AL Central.
