Taz's arm is going to fall off. I thought Francona was the worst abuser of the 'pen since Don Zimmer, but Farrell is giving Francona a run for his money.

Tazawa did not mess around with Gattis: 93, 95, 94 - out of there. Add: Taz's arm is going to fall off. I thought Francona was the worst abuser of the 'pen since Don Zimmer, but Farrell is giving Francona a run for his money. Not if he gets everyone out on 9 pitches, it isn't. I hope everyone appreciates how good this guy is. Uehara has overshadowed him, but man the guy can pitch. Add2: I know expectations are awfully high, but let's get real. Bogaerts is something like .285/.380/.800 at this point. That's in all of 1/3 of a season. He's 21 years old and he's doing this. Any idea how many teams would want to get their hands on this guy?

I'm such a sucker for Manny, Pedro and Millar, shoot me. That was the best time ever listening to a game.

I do appreciate him, just would prefer not seeing him out there 7 times in the last 9 days. It's got to be hard on him.
Long term pen? Him and Miller both actually, even if Miller isn't throwing 95+ any longer. Maybe the team will get with Miller on a deal like they did with Breslow several years back before he hit the market.

Another quality win. Some nice flashes by Sizemore & Bradley. Man, if those guys started figuring it out (and Sizemore looks like he is a bit more comfortable up there) and getting on base regularly this could become a very dangerous team.

To be that team, they're going to need Napoli and Victorino back at some semblance of their 2013 selves.

A somewhat troubling article by Rob Bradford: www.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/rob-bradford/2014/05/28/jon-lesters-red-sox-teammates-ready-make-case"It would be fair to say there was some grumbling in the Red Sox clubhouse upon learning of the team's spring training contract offer to Lester." Bradford goes on to refer to a sense of "empowerment" players feel after successfully campaigning to retain Napoli as well as a "Keep John Lester movement" that has developed within the clubhouse and regular discussion among players regarding Lester's contract status. This seems in contrast to last year, when everyone seemed to be either: (1) happy with their contract status (e.g. Pedroia, Victorino, Gomes) (2) understanding that they had something to prove (Napoli, Lackey, Lester) or (3) motivated going into their free agency year (Ellsbury, Salty, Drew). It goes without saying that Ortiz is always arguing he could be paid more.

I think if you're a Sox fan going to Fenway, this was probably the best total day to go to Fenway Park in 2014. Thus far the fan experience at Fenway must be less than thrilling considering the Sox lousy record at home.
Ring Ceremony Day was a very special day, one that even Edward Mujica couldn't ruin, although he did wreck the game.
Today not only did the fans see a clean 4-0 victory by the home team, but they got to see the most exciting dynamic team in Red Sox history tonight.
Seeing the 2004 team on the field meant so much to me. My most enjoyable moment was seeing Curt Schilling on the field. God bless him.
As always it was an absolute joy to see Pedro (I got to listen to his WEEI interview.) Unfortunately I couldn't see Pedro, Manny, or Millar in the broadcast booth during the game.
It was great to see Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez and not hear the boobirds. What Damon did in Game 7 of the ALCS outweights the ugliness of seeing him in pinstripes, and it was good to see that Manny is a new man - didn't care much for the man he was before, but it was great to see him trying to be a better person, and I did get a kick out of Damon intercepting Manny's throw.
It was awesome to see the old standbys like Wakefield, Varitek, and other guys we've seen recently like Timlin and Lowe.
It was cool to see Ellis Burks, Pokey Reese, and other Sox players that made that season so special that I hadn't seen in quite awhile.
My only wish is that the Sox could have done this on a day when Cleveland was in town so that Tito could been part of this.
What a great day at Fenway today! Look forward to the 2023 ceremony to honor the 2013 team, but as spectacular as they were, nobody can top that 2004 team.

To be that team, they're going to need Napoli and Victorino back at some semblance of their 2013 selves. Not really, actually a little more. First, Napoli was doing well before the injuries. If he heals, more than likely he will be fine. Victorino is another issue, sad. It really rest upon Dustin overcoming his wrist injury and Papi continuing to be Papi. There are some subtle signs that are a tad troublesome. Starting pitching is really one of the bigger concerns. Clay, Felix, and Peavy are questionable at this time. If they continue to have problems, do you believe there are pitchers at AAA that can step in without training wheels. If not, the pen will be dead by August. They also need the continual growth of the X-Man, and for Jr to continue making baby steps.

Think if the team knew they could get Lester under terms for 100mish range Django, they would offer him that @5y and be done with it. IMO, that is what he's worth, as consider him a Matt Cain comparison myself.
No back and forth, just 5/100m. We won't see that, there has to be negotiations for some reason, not like with Schill as his own agent.

Look forward to the 2023 ceremony to honor the 2013 team, but as spectacular as they were, nobody can top that 2004 team. You're right -- I had the pleasure of being there, and it was a fantastic all-around night. Got there just in time to catch the 2004 team ceremony. It's nice to see Manny in a good place. The park started chanting his name after he ran out from the monster. Real feel good moment there. Lucked out on having tickets for tonight -- the 2004 team is responsible not just for me becoming a die hard Sox fan, but for getting me obsessed with baseball as a whole. Lackey was phenomenal tonight, as was the pen. Agree that Taz is incredibly undershadowed -- he's as reliable as it gets (unless he's facing the Blue Jays). An 0 for 5 night brings Holt's OPS down to just barely above .700. I love the guy, but people on here need to accept that the Stephen Drew signing really does benefit our team, both offensively and defensively. We're going to be competing for a wild card spot at the very least, and a Holt/WMB platoon just isn't going to cut it at the hot corner. I'll be there again tomorrow, hoping to see a sweep. First shutout(!) and three game win streak (Astros have won 5 in a row!) of the season tonight. Let's make it four tomorrow.

" Clay Buchholz seeks help" -----------------------------
Why not wait a few more days,weeks,months,years...
Does everything have to be last minute with the FO?
I thought they had a bad winter. But why Buch coming off an incomplete 2013 wasn't ready in every conceivable way for this season is just beyond me. I don't get it?

Buchholz has always been a bit of a head case. The team knew this and drafted him anyway based on his obvious physical talent. On the bright side, if Zach Greinke can lick social anxiety disorder and depression, then there's hope for Clay to beat whatever demons he may have.

Think about what happens if they extend him now and then needs TJS. They'll extend him in Oct/Nov.

Atlanta looks to be a second baseman away from being a really solid team. Maybe a former ROY and MVP and two time world champ is something Atlanta would be interested in. (We'll gloss over the fact that this certain player's skills appear to be in decline.)
So to put it bluntly is there an opportunity to trade Pedey to Atlanta?
I know the Atlanta minor league system is bareboned. (I'm not a Lucas Sims fan) But Tehran might interest us.
PS: San Fran might also be looking for a second baseman, since Scuturo appears to have finally broken down for good.
Just something to keep in mind as this season plays out.

Yea, I'd say there is a great opportunity. In MLB the show 2014 these is an option for forced trades. Make sure that is on.
