So, uh, Ortiz should really be pinch hitting here.
ADD: yeah, really should have pinch-hit for Gomes.

Wow, what an ugly defensive inning for the Braves. I'll take it. They'll have to rename Fenway to Upton Park. That's usually what's done in response to charitable acts of this magnitude, right?

Alternatively, David Carpenter: Double Agent.

Good idea to have Sizemore bat there.

Back to back outfielders who can't hit same-handed pitchers for the life of them. But that nothing we didn't know.

Davis Ross versus Craig Kimbrel. This is gonna go well.
ADD: well, he made contact, which is more than I was expecting.

Davis Ross versus Craig Kimbrel. This is gonna go well. He tries to bunt and I actually don't mind. That says everything.

Why not PH Carp there and lose the DH? Kimbrel is a beast regardless, and Ross made contact, but still worth a gamble IMO. Then again, I'd have just sent Carp up for Gomes. But that'd be blasphemy to Farrell.

So the guy with the bad calf comes out for the guy with bad foot on a trailing run so the guy who can't hit can face the guy who throws 98 mph.

Yeah, I have no idea why Carp was pinch-running for Ortiz rather than pinch-hitting for Ross. It's not like Ortiz was the winning run or anything close to it.

Yeah, I have no idea why Carp was pinch-running for Ortiz rather than pinch-hitting for Ross. It's not like Ortiz was the winning run or anything close to it. Carp and ortiz both have bad foot/calf… If you put carp in the OF any ball over his head is a double or more.. Also If ortiz hut his injury more on the bases we are screwed. If carp makes it worse its not that bad..

Carp and ortiz both have bad foot/calf… If you put carp in the OF any ball over his head is a double or more.. Also If ortiz hut his injury more on the bases we are screwed. If carp makes it worse its not that bad.. If you trusted Ortiz enough to hit (and thus run to first), you can trust him enough to walk to second as well. Carp could have pinch-hit for Ross-- they would have lost the DH, but that spot wasn't coming up for another five spots, and they still had Herrera on the bench so that a reliever wouldn't have to hit.

Holt could play 2b for Braves. Big opportunity for X.

Big test for Xander here-- RISP, walk-off situation versus a wild Kimbrel.

Fitting end to a game where the ATL defense has imploded all game long
Listening on WEEI, and it sounded like Xander squared it up, and it was a nice play just to keep it on the infield.
For the mass hysteria in some of the media a few weeks ago when Xander had an OBP of "just" .350, he's been one of the best players in the league since then. I feel like it's already at the point where many people just expect him to be a superstar (and deservedly so), and he's barely been with the Sox for half a season

Man...I hope Xander doesn't succumb to the wine and the women. There's going to be temptation from all angles.
