In 4 starts since DL, Buchholz has 1BB/23K and averaged 7 1/3 innings.

In another SSS with moderately arbitrary end points: Dan Nava is 330/419/374 since recall, with of course a crazy high BABIP and no power (but, hey, I'm just pointing it out -not commenting on a prediction).

7/18 vs. KC and Shields: Holt RF, Pedroia 2B, Ortiz DH, Napoli 1B, Nava LF, Bogaerts 3B, Drew SS, Ross C, Bradley Jr. CF, Buchholz RHP
So, Ross vs. a RHP. I guess Farrell doesn't want to win anymore.

Vazquez is also a RHH, so there's no longer a natural platoon there. Farrell also mentioned having Ross handle the first game of a series so Vazquez can observe how they go after hitters and then replicate it.

OK, I missed that about first game of the series, because Farrell also mentioned that, going forward Vazquez would catch Buchholz, RDLR and Peavy and Ross would handle Lester and Lackey. But then again he's also mentioned a lot of things this year that have been…amended… soon after.

Just send Mookie to Pawtucket, kid needs his reps in the OF and Farrel is using him as some kind of platoon player!

Victorin's probably going to be activated tomorrow. I'm sure Mookie is the corresponding move.

From which we gather that you are not completely... crazy. Can we wrap some confidence intervals around that?

I don't know about you all, but I'm ready for some baseball. So excited to see what the Sox can do in the second half, particularly including moves around the trade and waiver deadlines.

Who may be the key player in the second half? I nominated Xander. He could be the bat the Sox need. Everyone has some theory as to what ails him, but you have to believe it is more mental and getting comfortable enough to let his natural abilities flow. No doubt he has confidence issues, whatever the source. Sometimes the mechanic flaws follow from this. Yogi was right about hitting. It is slanderous to "think" out here. NoMind is the way to go. Any other nominations for key player in the second half.

I don't know why we can't move Gomes and Peavy and still see our chances of making the play offs be similar to where they are right now. And why not just go into large scale sell mode with Koji and a few others like Miller. If we are best case at 6.7% of making the playoffs it would seem to be a solid decision to help our chances in the coming years by selling now.
Mr. Henry, do the math please. Sell.

I don't know why we can't move Gomes and Peavy I think Ben needs a dance partner who is willing to meet him in the middle and not try to fleece him in order to make this happen.

I've been impressed with Nava's defense this year. He seems to have a better first step than he did last year.
Buchholz is struggling with his command, but he's still hitting 92-94 with his fastball, which is much better velocity than he had pre-DL.

I thought the plan was for Ross to make even worse throws than that so the Royals think they can run all over us, then put Vazquez in for the next two games...

Buchholz clearly trying to establish the fast ball. Nine of his 17 pitches were FBs, including one that resulted in the double and another in the liner to Nava. He hit 95 with one of the fastballs, which I think is the hardest he has thrown this year. He did not throw his changeup, but three three curves, three cutters and two splitters.

Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised with Buchholz since he returned from the DL. 25 K's and 1 BB, and his FB has hit 94/95. Definitely a better long term outlook than say a month or two ago when he seemingly struggled to get to 90/91

Trust the projections. Brock Holt is a 83 85 91 wRC+ hitter. Guaranteed.

Despite that final ill-advised swing by Pedroia and only 1 run, 49 pitches ohh Shields after 2 innings. Very nice.
