Chris Mellen and the BP Prospect Staff released their Red Sox top ten today: Link1) C Blake Swihart 2) LHP Henry Owens 3) CF Manuel Margot 4) LHP Eduardo Rodriguez 5) 3B Rafael Devers 6) INF Michael Chavis 7) RHP Matt Barnes 8) 3B/OF Garin Cecchini 9) LHP Brian Johnson 10) RHP Michael Kopech I was a little surprised to see Kopech in there, but based on upside it makes sense. Pretty much what we would have expected.

Is anyone on here a subscriber? I am curious to see the tool ratings for Margot and Devers, and if they differ from Fangraphs

When Devers is your number 7 under 25, you know you have a stacked farm. Thanks for the post. Really interested to see how things pan out for the prospects, whether for the Red Sox or another organization.

I didn't see the top 10 under 25 (I'm not a subscriber), but I'm assuming based on their prospect rankings it has to be Bogaerts + Betts + top 5 prospects (if Devers is ranked 5th they only have 2 non prospects) which means Vazquez is an obvious admission. Also sorry to JBJ, Webster, and DLR (if he counts at the age of 25) MP EDIT: It's in the third post of this thread.

Chris Mellen loves Chavis? or he is low on Barnes, Cecchini and Johnson?

Chris Mellen loves Chavis? or he is low on Barnes, Cecchini and Johnson? Looks like he loves the upside of Chavis. I personally would have him there as well, I have a good feeling about him in 2015. I also think Barnes being where he is speaks to the idea that Mellen likes Barnes' upside as well.

I mean, I love me some Mookie. But Xander though...As I'm writing this I feel like this must be a typo. Has Mookie's stock risen that much/xander fallen? PS I write this as Mellen's talking on my podcast so maybe he answers this but I don't care I disagree

Multiple BP responses actually, some preferred X while others preferred Betts; said scouts were basically same.

The discerning eye will see that Al Skorupa did the U25 list.
Chris mentioned that he would have flipped them, as would I, but frankly, I don't think being of that opinion should lead to "eye bulging." It's certainly defensible.

I think it's somewhat underrated just how good of a prospect Mookie became due to the timing of his ascent.

Also, Al said on Twitter that his thinking was that Xander's a below-average SS and Mookie is a potential impact defender at 2B. If you think that, then I guess I can see the flip, but I think it's more like Xander's a below-average SS with the potential to be average and Mookie is more of an above-average-to-plus defender at 2B, which is part of why I go the other way.

Never mind found it just not under the podcast link. Take a lap, Hatfield. Or a couple. This is a recurring issue, and soon he's going to have to face some repercussions. Also, Al said on Twitter that his thinking was that Xander's a below-average SS and Mookie is a potential impact defender at 2B. Makes sense. I do think there's a very good chance that the difference in defensive run saved between Mookie (at 2B) and Xander eclipses the 5 run positional adjustment - probably by a lot - but we also can't discredit Xander's potential as a powerful bat who can also hopefully hit for a solid average. Sure, Mookie seems like a sure bet to be a ~.300, good OBP, 10-15 HR hitter, but with Xander there's a lot more unknown.

Great podcast. Did I miss it, or did no one discuss the never-ending debate on whether Owens is a possible #2 or a #3?
I definitely agree with Mellen on being hesitant to overrate Rodriguez based on 6 starts in Portland. Those weren't his words but he did rate him a potential #3 or #4 and not more than that. He did mention that it's curious that his stuff ticks up at the end of the season for each of the past two seasons. I'd be way less hesitant to include him in a trade than Owens.
Also great to hear how high they are on Chavis and that Devers' power might be rated low at 6+.

I always found it's hard to have an impact playing second base when you're not playing second base.

It's kinda funny that both Xander and Betts probably are both below avg to fringy at SS, but Betts has a lot more defensive value.

Mellen definitely seems to like Chavis a lot. Jimed was right that the power grade was great to see.
Any chance someone can post all of Chavis' grades?

Or a couple. This is a recurring issue, and soon he's going to have to face some repercussions. I guess I just think of that page as the archive for old podcasts, not where people go to listen to the new ones. The new podcasts are always posted on the News Page. Guess I'll make that page more of a priority.
